Going from C52 to C160, what is involved?

Postby onnaj » Thu Aug 22, 2013 9:17 am

Hello,

Next week i'm recieving my C160 gearbox with LSD from the AE111 Levin. It comes with the shifter cables and lever. I have some questions though, hopefully someone can answer them.

1) Can i use my C52 shift cables and lever or do i absolutely need to change them?
2) Can i use my C52 axles?
3) Do i need special LSD oil, normal gearbox oil or whatsoever?
4) what should i need more? For example use a 'TRANSAXLE OR TRANSMISSION ASSY & GASKET KIT (MTM)'?

Thanks!

1st what car is this going into?
if it is a fwd (meaning fx/ae92/ect.) then this should be able to bolt up. Youll have to deal with mounts for they might not line up right. (but afaik the c series should all bolt up fine.)
If your putting this in a mr2 then you can but it will take some machining.) there is a guy that made a blog on how to.
the c series had two axles. there is the bolt on one and also there is the push in type. look at the axles and if you have a flange with 6 bolts around it then no it will not. ( If axles halfs are coming with the tranny then you can swap out the cv end and make it work.)
The LSD oil is a good bet for this Autozone also sells an additive if you want. You dont wanna ruin the lsd.
if your not planning on rebuiding the transmission itself then you dont need to worry about the kit. I would just worry about the seal around the input shaft and the seals around the axle inputs.
hope this sheds some light on the subject.

Hello,

It's coming into a 1998 Celica ST.

From what i've heard till now it's best to change the box also and the shifter cables.
I've heard everywhere that special LSD oil isn't required.

I can get one for about €600,-. It's the LSD gearbox only without cables. I've been told it's done only 130.000 km and has no grinds or whatsoever. I cannot give guarantee it though while i'm not able to test it myself. ;)

If interested you can always send me a pm.

Yes it is, but you can try to get them cheaper. They're really rare!
