w58 trans swap questions.

ok so i got some questions as i am trying to source more parts for the swap. i searched and havent found straight answers.

parts i have:
4a>w bellhousing
w58 slave
w58 clutch fork and bearing
celica supra yolk and halfshaft (to have a drive line made)
celica supra trans subframe and mount.

questions
i dont have the w58 speedo sensor can i use the t50 one so that my speed is correct?
will the subframe work or do i need a sr5 automatic trans subframe.

i know i need a clutch made from max but i was just making sure i have what i need and get some solid info.

the t50 sensor likely will not work. the gear is the wrong size IIRC.

will the cellica supra trans bracket work? or do i need to get a auto ae86 one?

do you remember the car it came out of? I think there were different sized gears (number of teeth) depending on the car (since celicas and supras had different engines, final drives, etc.).

a 84 cellica supra.
so that means i need a cellica supra speedo sensor? a mk3 supra one wouldnt work?

also turtle i was wondering. i am in the middle of doing a power window swap and i have almost everything except switches. i was looking all day and went to 3 pick n pulls. i couldnt find anything. i was looking for the door switches you have. i thought they came off a mx73 but none i saw looked like yours. and i was also looking for the master you have too. and i couldnt find any cressida that came as a coupe. can you pm me what you got your switches/arm rests from please.

IIRC, there's a worm gear on the output shaft that matches with the speedo gear. The two types of worm gears are 10 and 11 teeth, so i guess you get a 50/50 chance of getting one that matches. The variation on the speedo gear is between 30-35 teeth. I'm going to guess that if you get any speedo gear, it'll work, but your speedo will probably not be accurate. However, any speedo gear will allow you to plug that gaping hole you need covered, which I would say is more important.

lemme check my storage, I may have one. dunno how many teeth the gear has though. I'll keep you posted.

turtle as always thank you! loads of information. i went to the junkyard and got the vin# and apparently mine had 31 tooth. and my thinking was wouldnt i have to get my speed corrected anyways? so would it really mater what one i get? lol im running smaller tires than a celica anyways so no matter what i would need a adapter to make my speed accurate right?

ok turtle so i just got back from the yard and i was able to get one off a 4runner transmission. i had toyota tell me what they came on and 88 4runners had them. and it has the 31 teeth. the only thing it doesnt have is the 90 degree adapter. did you need to run that on your w58 that your running on lola? or can i get by with out it?

nope. the 90 degree adapter only changes the direction of the cable. Also, I think i tried using one once and it re-directed the cable to the crossmember, so i ditched it. if you can attach it without any obstructions, you should be good to go.

from a 4runner? so then a W56 with a 4x4 transfer case? I wonder if the shaft is the correct length. did they say that the unit that bolts in was the same, or just the gear at the end?

ya it was a 88 4runner. with a 22re. and it fits perfect. i was surprised also. he told me they used the same one and showed me the computer screen that the part # was the same that just the plastic gear was different. but some had the 31 tooth that i needed. i can take a pic and post it if you want.

Nice. Congrats on the find. Assuming 209 means Stockton, is that 88 4runner still intact? Still have it's transfer case, pedals, transmission? Is the engine still there? I have a 22re powered 4runner auto and might benefit from a 5 speed swap.

thanks man im excited to do the swap. and close im in lodi about 15min north of stockton. and yup it still had everything except the head. but the trans was still there. and with shifter so you dont need to use a socket and extension to test it lol pretty much all that was missing was driver fender and all the interior, and the head. they also have some in the yard next to it but they are not listed as 4runners just toyota pickups. they had the engines but they looked pretty beat up. and one was 5speed also.
