Charge battery light on
Charge battery light on
Hi guys, I got my vehicle running but right now the charge battery light is on! i check the alternator it shows it has 12 volts. I even pulled the alternator off and had it tested at oreillys and it passed the test! the fuses are all good! I'm all out of ideas as to what the problem can be! hope someone can direct me in the right direction! Thanks guys
Re: Charge battery light on
You say O'Reilly trested it as good but you tested it as 12 volts. 12 volts is bad, our POS alternators should put out 13.8 at idle speed and 14.4 at cruising speed.
So I'd have someone else check it, sometimes the counter guys just don't know what they are doing and your charge light says there's a problem.
If the alternator DOES test good--and you want to see a printout with the voltge, not just "good"--then you have a wiring problem. Could be a corroded wire in the harness that plugs into the alternator, but the way the charge light circuit is built, I've never heard of one lighting up unless there was a problem. Although, in Toyota's unique concept of engineering, BOTH the charge light and the brake light are supposed to light up if the alternator is no good. Make sure the brake light isn't burned out, it should light up when you pull up the parking brake handle. If the brake light is good, but only the charge light is coming on...that would point back to some kind of wiring problem.
Till you get it figured out, needless to say don't trust the car, keep checking the battery voltage.
