upgrading CWP

Postby YokoAE86 » Fri Apr 05, 2013 5:53 pm

Hi Guys

ATM my corolla has a 4.3cwp. I will be changing my LSD soon and was wondering if it is a good idea to change the cwp to a 4.7 as well, as alot of people have this.

From my understanding, changing to a 4.7 cwp means faster acceleration but top speed will be reduced.

I have a stock AE92 4age in my corolla. What will i expect if i upgrade? If i am on the highway with a 4.7cwp, does this mean in 5th gear, the revs will be really high? I know there is a new 5th gear on sale on this forum.

What other pros and cons are there to upgraing to a 4.7 cwp? Is it worth it or do i just stick to my 4.3cwp?

Thanks guys

Your assumptions are correct. With 4.7 fd you'll see roughly 4300 rpm @ 65 mph, tire size depending (that's where I'm at with 195/50 tires). With the 4.7 you'll always be roughly 300-400 rpm higher at any given mph compared to a 4.3. As a result I'm usually shifting @ 3500-4k rpm when accelerating up to speed. First gear is CRAZY short. It's a blast though.

If the car is your daily it might be hard to live with, but it really depends on the person. If you drive the car on the highway a lot I'd stick with the 4.3, or plan on buying the mfactory t50 5th gear to go along with the 4.7. (I have the mfactory gear but haven't installed it.)

you can get the same effect by changing tire size. if you run a 185/55/14 or 195/45/15 tire it will be the same as changing to a 4.5 final drive ratio.

I'm running 195/50/15 tire with 4.778 weir R&P
And my speed odometer reading is 9miles higher then my actual speed...
