Brake lines will not fill with fluid

I'm having all sorts of fun today

Along with my front brake upgrade, I also got a set of good ridge brake lines and a set of speed bleeders for the front and rear brakes. In doing so, I let out all the old brake fluid. After installing the new brake hoses and speed bleeder, and went to fill up the resivoir. Of course, it only filled up a bit, since their is so much air in the system.

I go to the back left brae, open the speed bleeder, and then proceed to press the brake. However, no fuid left the resivoir. Confused, i completely take out the speed bleeder, and press the brake. Nothing. I switch to a different brake, and the same problem.


What am I doing wrong?

did you change your master cylinder? how old is your BMC? do you pump bleed your brakes? also if you let all your fluid out you might need to bench bleed your BMC again.

sounds like you need to bench bleed the master.

There's no pressure build up for it to bleed. Try to do what's suggested above & start with the MC..then move down to the calipers & do the final bleeding there

If its a hassle to remove the MC, you can bench bleed it right there on the car..go grab a buddy to help you bleed the MC..Crack the hardlines open one at a time (line wrench 10mm I think) & have ur buddy press the brake pedal to the floor & hold it.. Tighten the line & repeat..do this for the second line.

I bench bled my master cylinder in like 30 minutes. Suuupper easy. unbolt it, pull it out, fill with brake fluid, get a mc bleeder kit from oreilly for like $7, run the lines into the reservoir then push the piston in all the way a few times. I was able to do it with my bare hands, no vice/bench necessary

Yeah removing the MC would've been the correct way,without any assistance..dot 3 isn't paint friendly either

Be careful of pushing the piston in too far if you are bleeding a used master cylinder.
Sometimes the part of the bore that does not get used in normal operation can corrode, pushing the seals past the
corrosion can damage them.
This also applies when bleeding the brakes, try not to let the pedal go all the way to the floor.
