AE86 exhaust options
AE86 exhaust options
I'm curious to know how many exhaust options are available for our cars?
I know I could go to any shop and have one made, heck I could make my own.
I was just browsing through the bay and saw a couple of interest.
I like this one because it comes in 3 sections. So modifying would be easy as would installation and removal if I had to do some work.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Exhaust-Catback ... dc&vxp=mtr
inexpensive
http://www.ebay.com/itm/OBX-CAT-BACK-EX ... 65&vxp=mtr
I just want to see if anyone has any experience with them.
Opinions, thought, good or bad????
Thanks

Re: AE86 exhaust options
I got a GReddy Ti-c from Eric at Rhys Millen Motorsports for $385 shipped last year. He said they were discontinued though. It's huge and pretty light, 60mm stainless from front to back. I like.

Re: AE86 exhaust options
HKS super drager. only saw one of these once, in '97. sounds weird, hollow sounding.
RSR - ex mag II : currently run this, sounds awesome, but loud. even with the silencer.
RSR - ex mag - oval : Had this on my 2nd ae86, favorite exhaust. wish i could find one again.
FUjitsubo - legalis: 1st ae86 had this. very quiet. kind of restrictive, only came in 50mm
greddy Ti C: not bad, medium loud, quiet with silencer.
HKS sport: quiet, looks stock.
HKS hipower: everyone has this
espelir GT500: Underaxle. sounds awesome. not too loud with silencer.
Those are all the ones i have real life experience with.
RTFM!!!!!!!!!!! --> http://www.aeu86.org/technical/

My DD was the best sounding exhaust ever. Anyone who has owned one will say the same

For mild to moderate(using aftermarket management - 130-180hp) - 60mm mandrel bent Brave (1 style available)

here we go:
5zigen - border III - quiet - street exhaust - for super mild tune 16v. - not much power add
RSR - ex mag II - loud - VERY nice power band - exhaust flow was smooth
RSR - ex mag - oval - street exhaust - mild
Blitz Realize TT - street exhaust - mild
Greddy DD - heavy as **** - loud - sounded good - to heavy not worth the money
Brave - oval - best of both worlds - 60mm all the way through - OVAL clean look - decent air flow
FUjitsubo - legalis - street exhaust mild
Fujitsubo - legalis R - street exhaust mild
Fujitsubo - RM01- semi street - this is pretty good -0 but i beleive its discontinue
rein hard - dual - amazing power band - wakes up engine - loud w/ baffles - even louder without. - sounds like **** with silencers
greddy Ti C - eh.. watev
apexi N1 - eh - just like a hks hipwer
apexi ws II - evo - very nice construction - 60mm all the way through - downfall is canister is bit too big for 86 - and flow is not the best - but sounds GREAT!
HKS sport - junk
HKS hipower - eh ok, but not that great..
espelir GT500 - amazing power band - sounds awsome - piping is low - canister a little to big
buddy club sPec II - if only they made this in 60mm all the way through it would be TITS! great exhaust for mild tuned track car. loud as **** - looks badass
apexi windmaster - junk
i think thats it.
Of all those that you listed, which was your favorite?
my favorite till this day is the BRAVE - 60mm stainless all the way through and over axle. - clean and has the pretty good flow..
see above for some notes on them.

I have the HKS Sport exhaust on mine right now. The KMS was too loud without a silencer and sounded terrible with one.
The HKS with resonated test pipe and KMS exhaust manifold is perfect for me. No drone, gets loud with higher RPM.

Personally i dont like to attract the attention of he cops... i went with a mbrp truck resonator and a magnaflow muff i dont have emission laws so its headers back sounds nice. Im doing a 3sge convert ill get vid when done.

I have the Espelir JGT500 with an OBX 4-1 header and T3 test pipe, and there is a very noticeable difference in power. It sounds beautiful as well. Pretty mellow sound.

Re: AE86 exhaust options
I have the Rein hard 60mm single cannonball circuit stainless model (under axel no baffles)and its loud with a stock engine and im sure its going to scream with the 20v...but its the most direct exhaust front to back ive had..cost is pretty up there also at 600 plus shipping from japan! Ive had fujistubos, RSR, greddy, hks, and for mildly tuned engine i have to agree woth Dan above Fujitsubo is best bet..never tried brave... All my cars sat to low for over the axel setups
20v power.....powered by Orion's Demise!
Re: AE86 exhaust options
I like custom made exhausts from exhausts shops. With a stock 16v 4age I would either go with a 2" or 2.25" stainless steel piping. Then go with a stainless steel magnaflow muffler and tip. I have this setup on another car and theres no rattle sound. Just crisp deep throaty engine. This setup is about $550.
Re: AE86 exhaust options
Anyone try a Janspeed cbe? They look nice and sound good in the videos, but I'm not really sure on the pipe size.
On another note I had a hks sport for a while which looked and sounded great - it was pretty tame. Piping is on the small side though. I think hks claims 50 mm ID (IIRC it actually necks down to roughly 46-48 mm at the cat flange). The muffler also isn't straight through, rather, it's slightly offset which is probably why it's not really loud. It's a good size for a stock or mildly tuned 16v. I wasn't fond of the mild steel construction though.

Re: AE86 exhaust options
wow ronny, thats quite the extensive list you have, hah.
One thing I forgot to mention was I'm runnin a 3tc, so 2.5" is fine.
Another reason for me to go with option #1 is that its built to fit high and tight and I can modify it as needed. Another thing I'm going to do is replace the bolt on flanges with some v-band clamps as well as toss in a HF cat. I'm not one to attract any attention though I do like a nice sounding exhaust, loud does not always mean powerful
Thanks for everyones input, I appreciate it.

Re: AE86 exhaust options
Has anyone tried the obx catback exhaust with twin tips? Saw one quick video of it on YouTube but that's all I could really find on it. Haven't seen any real reviews for it. So far it looks like a knockoff greddy dd for cheap.

Apexi Bomber here. I like it a lot. Not invasive at all.
Merry Motoring !!!!!!
Re: AE86 exhaust options
Well, I broke down and ordered my first option.
I like the design, how it comes in sections, is over the axle and is all 304SS. Also how it has v-band and flex pipe.
I have a maggy hf cat that I'll be adding into one of the section, when I lay it out I'll make up my mind where it will go.
When I get it, I'll post pics and a small review.
Thanks for everyones info, I appreciate it

I got this twin exit OBX, Fits good and is LOUD, 20V ST w/open stacks and I am using a OBX TRD header, test pipe instead of a cat so that might be making most of the difference in sound. Doesnt hang too low either, I live in an area that has potholed/rough/dirt roads and I havent bottomed it out yet. I dont have the car slammed real low so...
Car is VERY LOUD while accelerating at anything above half-throttle. Its only regular loud when its accelerating under half-throttle. Its def acceptable under cruising though. Id recommend it to anyone looking for a DD but dont have the funds for it.
Re: AE86 exhaust options
i had a megan on a stock blacktop.......sounds good, test pipe, and obx header. however if you blow fireballs, the packing in the muffler starts to popcorn. its an underaxle design, loud at WOT, deep tone when cruising, and the silencer works.
on a 200whp gze i had a shop built header back 2.5" under axle into a magna-flow muffler out to twin 3" boso tips, was perfect. deep, never crackled, and sounded very throaty. obx header.
my worked bluetop had a shop built 2.25" under axle header back, 16" glasspack in place of the cat, and a nopi twin cannister 3" muffler, no name high rise headers. meh, you be the judge:

(dont mind the voice over, i was uber excited)
