RnD office - 86 1 peice rear strut brace!! - comments
hi all,
so i am looking to produce a rear brace that has been sought after by many ae86 owners.
for those that know this bar it was either:
RUN FREE
TPS - TECHNO PRO SPIRIT
OKUYAMA - OG
what is special about this setup is that there is no drilling of your car and its just PLAIN simple to install and it works great, it follows what an ae86 should be ( SIMPLE ) and looks amazing.
the original piece design was using:
1. an alluminum oval bar in the center
2. CAST pieces for the mount on the tower bars
these 2 pieces were then welded together to create this popular Bar.
my take on is to try and improve this piece.
i plan to:
1. improve the mounting strength with more ribs
2. improve the shape of the strut cup design for a more tighter fit.
3. use a hollow cylinder type bar with a matte texture finish - lighter and stronger
4. CNC the whole piece as ONE!
below are pictures of the TEST fit of a rough sample - 3 piece welded -
i want to gauge your interest in this bar.. for the many years that i have been playing with this car, this strut brace was very sought after, and many people payed top dollar for this type of setup.
if i produce and IMPROVE this, would you guys all be interested?
keep in mind - as far as price - i would assume 135-145.. this is a rough estimate - but most likely in this range.
lets here your comments!
thanks again,
this year i will help create fun and great products for the AE86 ONLY... enjoy your 86..
Ronny
PS - alot of great products to come!!!

what kind of rear shocks are those? i have TRDs and they were too short to get the 2 "cups", bushing, and nuts to all fit. i ended selling the bar i had because of that. i would get your bar if that problem in the design would be addressed.
btw ppl with AGXs will not have a problem using this.

My advice would be to figure out how to butt it up against the chassis real well. If you have just the shock bushings holding it in...that's gonna flex more than the sheet metal you are trying to strengthen!

yes, the cup section needs to be re measured and redone - its about 2-3mm off on the edges - however on the underside of the cup, it is sitting completely flush against the chassis. its almost like doing pattern cutting for shoes.. this is one hurdle that i am looking rite now. other then that the rest is very simple for me to work around.
the shocks used on this car are TRD short stroke.

Finally, been waiting for someone to make something like this for a long time. Iirc the techno pro spirit one got discontinued a few years back but its good to see that its being brought back, something simple yet useful.
Put me down, got my interest and can't wait to see what else is yet to come.

don't hate me Ronny. We made something like this that we haven't posted for sale yet, different design though.

that work looks great nd these bars would look awesome. but from an engineering standpoint you have to realize a rear strut bar in a live axle car is only for looks. think about what forces try to push those 2 shock towers togeather, or apart. just food for thought.

i'm down for one of these when you start manufacturing them. i would also love to see a solid 3-point front strut tower bar come into the market for less than the typical $300+ that you usually see them for.
