You guys know this could easily be put to rest with some basic measurements. Take a factory pump and an Aisin pump and measure the gears, the bore in the housing, and the clearances. If you have more than one pump laying around measure both. This speculation and guessing isn't providing any one with usable information.

OST- I've had multiple bad Toyota pumps right out of the box, I now go through every one I use and check specs. You would be surprised how many don't spec out.

Well here are the photos of the two pumps side by side.

Left is Aisin OPT-32 AKA 15100-15060 (Aisin casting: "Aisin 10". Right is Aisin OPT-36 AKA 15100-19036 (Aisin casting: "Aisin 2". And yes the seal is installed in the one on the right. Note also the gear thickness difference in the last photo.

So there were the photos I said I'd post. I did not have time to take measurements off everything but I thought some visuals might help.

Aisin housings can be bored to different depths.... shallower depth = similar pressure... less volume... but maybe... enough volume. Material the pump gears are made from. One material for Toyota... another might be good enough...

When you pump THOUSANDS of dollars into an engine.... buying crap aftermarket for a crucial part... just doesn't make sense.

Those gears do not look like they are made from the same material.....

What would be interesting... is to now get a Toyota 19036 pump and disassemble it, and then compare depths, and material...........

The one on the left is definitely for a 4A-FE (at least, an '88-'92 4A-FE). Here's a pic of my CAT wagon's 4A-FE oil pump:

Actually it is supposed to be a 93-95 Corolla 4A-FE from my reference.

Not the two parts engines I have. Why would that make any sense? The have piston squirters, so should require the higher volume pump...

i think the oil pump spring makes the difference in pressure...correct me if i am wrong

The spring limits pressure but the pump has to produce enough volume at that pressure before the bypass spring even opens. If the pump is too small then it won't make enough pressure to open the bypass.
