16v or 20v?
hi guys. i just joined here to get some questions answered. I don't have much experience with these engines but i do have a 1jz mk3 supra. so I'm heavy into the supra world. I also do work as a tech at a shop so I'm not a car noob. now one of these engine will be going into a fox mustang. this car has already had a ka24de running in it but i traded the ka for an sr but with the sr being a front sump with an aluminum pan. it doesn't make it very fun since it gets in the way of my steering rack. i want to daily this car and since i have a tt supra i have the whole need for power this covered. however i still would like something out of the car. how are the power levels of these? now i now the 20v (silver top) has more out of box but how are they in modded form? i also read the 20v (silver top) has oiling issues? how can these be fixed? I'm doing all this my self if anyone needs to know.

Start with the what model you have. SR5 or GT-S? After that, I think one of the more experienced members can help you.

Re: what engine should i go with?
Hmmm 1UZFE sounds like a cool swap for a fox mustang. nice exotic sounding V8 huh? and they are cheap!!!
Re: what engine should i go with?
It does sound like you're going in a few directions, and I'm rather skeptical that you're being serious at all.
Pick a direction.

Re: what engine should i go with?
So are you trying to put a 4AG in a Foxbody? Personally, I'd just try to find a wrecked Foxbody with a V8.

Re: 16v or 20v?
the only way to get power out of a small 1.6 motor is to rev it so I think you will be disappointed in the performance (for a daily driver)
maybe a Beams 3sg would be and idea

Re: what engine should i go with?
Lol guys this car never came v8 and probly won't be one for a long time. I understand this seems like a stretch for you guys but I do have vids of this car running the ka and a bunch of pics of it. I'm truly serious and I am going to put one of the two in there. I'm thinking that eventually this car will get a 1uz but not yet. That's the only v8 this car will see

Re: 16v or 20v?
Like I said I'm more towards daily with this car.
And yup your reading it right and yup I know there all front sump. I've already been doing my research and I know I can change it since it's a steel pan
And clouds i don't have an ae86. I wish I did but I can't find a clean/not stupidly overpriced shell

Re: 16v or 20v?
i can't tell if your trolling or not.
Honestly i just dont think it will be a good idea. My buddy had one of those rwd celicas with a 4age in it and the weight of the vehicle made it a dog. Horrible gas mileage and not enuff power to really move it anywhere.
not his car, but it was this model.

Re: 16v or 20v?
I spend a lot of my time telling people not to give up on the 4AGE for reaching their goals but in this case I would have to agree that any NA 4A will probably be a bit of a letdown.
You can get a 16 valve making more power than a stock 20V pretty easy wit cams and compression. From there I find them both impractically expensive to get much more out of unless you are limited by a class of racing or something similar.
If you went with boost you could probably get an acceptable entertaining ride out of it.

Re: what engine should i go with?
I would stick with the KA24DE, the extra torque would make a huge difference. They are a pretty decent engine, and take to boost really well.
Re: what engine should i go with?
I can feel the difference with another person in my car with a 4AC.... I can only imagine that a 4AG with 300lbs more weight would feel like. It might be worth looking into one of those little Pinto Motors... they at least have a turbo and I believe they are closer to bolt in for a mustang. I love Fords and Toyotas... but you are making my brain hurt. lol

Re: what engine should i go with?
7AGZE - 16V 10.5 to 1 compression, SC14, custom cams 220@ .040" with 9mm of lift custom management. this should have no problem planting 200hp, 200#/ft of torque... which should be more than adequate for this vintage Mustang*...
* - original power plant was a 2.3 (88hp), options were the Cologne V6 (110hp), the turbo 4 @132hp, and the 302 @ 140hp.

Re: what engine should i go with?
I do appreciate the comments but it's getting one if the three engines listed. If I can get a 3sge with a steel pan I'll do that

Why is the steel pan important?

1980??
The one, and only new car I ever bought was a 1980 Turbo Capri. I ordered the car, as opposed to buying something on the lot. I ordered it with the turbo 4, (no P/S, or A/C), 4 speed, TRX suspension, Recaro interior (orange), painted dark burgundy, I also ordered an RS grill (flat black) and had it fitted before I picked it up.
Oh... 132hp... was about 40+ shy of what mine planted , shortly after the warranty I fitted a Racer Walsh boost kit, I could turn up the boost from inside the car...
