Are the aftermarket Red Clear Tail Lights Lamps any good?
Are the aftermarket Red Clear Tail Lights Lamps any good?
I have a cracked/broken tail light on my 86 hatch. I was thinking about getting these http://www.ebay.com/itm/380670139092?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649. Or should I just buy tail light tape? I would like to know if anyone has these and if their any good. Or if I should save up for some used OEM tail lights?
Re: Are the aftermarket Red Clear Tail Lights Lamps any good
My friend had a pair on his old 86 but they were the smoked version looked like it fit pretty good and didnt know they werent oem till i got close to check them out. Honestly i would just get a set of oems but thats because im getting flash backs of when everybody had altezza style lights on their cars. But if you want some new cheap lights and dont care what others think go for it, i mean theyre brand new.

I always thought the crystal style ones could look pretty cool if tinted.
As with anything, there's nothing like the real thing.

Chrome ones are tacky, smoked ones are much better.
Re: Are the aftermarket Red Clear Tail Lights Lamps any good
Actually.... If your gonna smoke your tail lights.... you could smoke the **** out of those ebay ones, and non would be the wiser. lol
But oem look the best, even if they run for $300 a set now a days

Yeah if you can shell out 3 to 5 hundred on tail lights go for it, i would too but op was asking what the quality of those tail lights are. of course oem is supreme but if you just want a cheap alternitives for new tail lights without breaking bank i dont see why not.

And a set of Kouki REDLINES set w/center garnish for the hatch......$$$$$
(That is if you can find a Redline center garnish at all.....for Redlines look heLLa tacky without the center IMO.)

a member way back sprayed a set of those ebay lights wuth a red candy?/translucent paint and they looked just as good as any of those oem posted imo. Won't rival oem quality, but I was surprised how good they turned out actually. Probably saved a pix on my laptop.

I'd love to see the pics of the ebay lights with a red candy /translucent paint.

Well for starters looks like you're going to need a KOUKI REDLINE CENTER GARNISH which is now discontinued.
(I mentioned this a few threads up)

that center garnish looks like something that the tail lamp manufacturer could make for $60
if the lack of that center piece, is gonna severly limit sales, they may wanna hop to it
one huge advantage of the clear light is that you can tint / color / smoke it to your liking
First one I saw was sorta crimson colored, but still a bit transparent so it had a 'crystal' look to it.
Suited a silver, white or lightish colored hatch, better than any of the oem ones..... just my opinion tho

you beat me to it i was going to say some red out lenses would look pretty good.
you can still get a redline center garnish from yahoo japan for actually a really good price. its usually the shipping that hurts the most. i bought a set of redlines from YJ for i think 200 shipped with the center garnish. i got lucky and won a set that no one else was bidding on. i used shoppingmalljapan.com for the middleman service. just make sure you know what the shipping charges will be cuz some can be pretty steep and ruin the savings
Re: Are the aftermarket Red Clear Tail Lights Lamps any good
I have a red corolla with the OEM black kouki center piece garnish. Should I use VHT Nite-Shades™ Red or VHT Nite-Shades™ Black to tint my red/clear taillights?
Re: Are the aftermarket Red Clear Tail Lights Lamps any good
Those red out ones look good! I may be able to sell my sprinters, now.
Pursuing the ideal
Re: Are the aftermarket Red Clear Tail Lights Lamps any good
i bought these only for one reason, and that was to smoke them and now they look really good

Did you use clear coat over them after you smoked them or did you just smoke them?
