20v wiring help

Postby Mr.Fujiwara » Thu Jun 19, 2014 12:05 pm

Ok well this is my first 20v swap so be easy on me lol
I don't claim to know a lot but I try to figure it out...
So I got a wiring harness from mr220v it has the clip for
A 16v alternator, I have a 20v alternator so I either need
To get the clip for the 20v alt or get a 16v alt and bracket
I think I may just get the 16v alt and bracket cause of the alignment
Issue on the belt. Also I got a distributor relocation kit from a buddy
In japan and I have two different clips for the coil and igniter. One goes
To the fuze box on the right if you are looking at the bay from the
Front. The other is apart of the harness that goes across the bay and
I'm assuming into the ecu.

The one that goes to the fuze box:

The one that is on the new harness:

Here is the 16v alt clip:

I don't know where the plug underneath goes

Other plugs I have no idea where they go:

This is behind the engine I believe it's apart of the same part that connects to the distributor.

Don't know where this goes:
Image
Also can't seem to find where the o2 sensor goes

It could be I am just getting frustrated lol
I've gone over Morgans awesome write up a billion times I feel
I've seen wiring layouts and diagrams, but wiring isn't really my thing
I'm in SoCal is anyone wants to help a fellow enthusiast out Lola the corolla
Is dying to get back on the road lol
Thanks in advanced guys !!
If anymore pics or information is needed just let me know guys !!

Lol man your picture really Suck!!!!! Barely see the plug. It a bit hard to tell what they are.

But i too have a harness made by mr220v so i should be able to tell you where those plug go once i get home from work.. That if any one couldnt point it out to you before that.

02 sensor plug need to plug in the 02 sensor it self and that depend on where you mount your 02 sensor... It on the exhaust manifold on down to before cat... Look for it. And i guessing but if you dont where is it you properly dont even have the rigth sensor in place. You cant use the 16v 02 sensor for this swap.

Plug behind/firewall side look to be a water temp sensor for the gauge cluster or water temperture sensor most of the time it located on the water block and it should be rigth there same area you toke that picture.

Hahaha man don't know how they came out so crappy I'm doing everything from my girls iPad
And the pics are great they just uploaded shitty !!
I'll try to take some better ones tomorrow morning before work.

I thought it was a water temp plug too but the sensor I have doesn't fit the plug..
But then again it could be a different sensor .. I'll look more into that in the morning as well

No wonder lol I still have the 16v o2 sensor as well :| :| :|

Yeah his harness is great great quality I would go through him again ... :ugeek:

Thanks for the fast reply Phanist

For water temp sensor for gauge you can use your 16v sensor i think mr220v made that harness to be use with the 16v sensor it will work just fine.. So pull the sensor from your 16v motor and screw it on.. Check to see if the plug from harness would fit first before you do any thing.

That second plug that by the alt plug could be for your knock sensor which located under the throttle body/itb

As for the alt it self there should be a round looking plug with 2or 3 wire then a thicker wire by it self that have a small circle to fit that m8 bolt screw. Which i dont see in your pic.

That 2 plug in the second picture from first post. Is for the ignitor and coil. I can see that the wire is made a bit extra long so you can mount the coil and ignitor to any where you want that reach.

Yeah that's why I'm thinking that the alt plug that is on the harness is for the 16v alt
I sold the 16v engine already unfortunately because of space issues .. :|
I'll double check that knock sensor in the morning

read what I put in BOLD, hope it helps

The one that is on the new harness:
correct for 20v igniter, 20v coil is the 2 wire

Here is the 16v alt clip:

I don't know where the plug underneath goes
that's the o2 sensor, below the black 16v alt plug

Other plugs I have no idea where they go:
water temps sensor for ecu, stock on the 20v, the sensor is located on the rear thermostat housing, below the distributor

This is behind the engine I believe it's apart of the same part that connects to the distributor.

Don't know where this goes:
o2 sensor

Also can't seem to find where the o2 sensor goes

the clip pics are all in my diy. why is the green 16v dist plug there again? that's part of the 16v engine harness so it shouldn't be wired to the fuse box, was it like that previously?

if you have rwd pullys, use 16v alternator and bracket, then youll be fine with the 16v plug on the headlight harness.

grab any 4 wire o2 sensor from a Toyota. go to the jy and grab the plugs also(just clip the wires off both the harness & sensor on the jy car(might have a spare if needed), any 4 wire. you need to swap the plugs(male and female) over to the harness & new sensor. be very careful when swapping wires, be sure they go in the exact same position as they are now. I use the plug clip as reference when doing this. I also recommend an obx 3sgte o2 sensor, but any Toyota 4-wire will do. I just have experience with the 3sgte one so I know it works
haha cali...i got one of your 86's and you're not getting it back.
