Alternative Supplier for 4AGE 20V valve shims...

Postby jondee86 » Sun Mar 30, 2014 1:37 pm

Just while I think of it... does anyone have the dimensions of a 20V valve
shim, or have a shim lying round that they could measure ? Googling has
not produced anything helpful, and I would like to know...

1. Outside diameter
2. Inside diameter
3. Overall height

There is a company in Australia that makes shims, but they only seem to
list the shims by dimensions, not by application. And I'd like to see if the
shims they list are the correct size for the 20V.

OD 8mm
ID 5mm
Total height varies by shim. It looks like the depth from the bottom of the bore to the top of the bore is 2.4mm.

I am pretty sure Supertech has shims that will fit. Not sure about availability over there though.

Thanks for that. The Aussies make a 5mm inside dia "lash cap" that looks as
so it should work with the 20V. I will try and get pricing and the range of sizes
available and post the info up.

The dimensions I sent Precision Shims in Australia were :-

OD 8.0mm
ID 5.1mm
HEIGHT 4.4mm
Recess Depth varies [it's a shim!], but around 2.4mm

He had them on the shelf. Nice bloke to deal with

Height will vary between shims, measured them past year and almost all have a difference in height, except ofcourse from the recess depth which also varies.

The consensus is that the shims measure 5mmID x 8mmOD x approx 4.4mm
overall height (varies with shim thickness). Precision shims make these from
1.00mm to 5.0mm thick in increments of 0.02mm with most sizes available
off the shelf.

The price is AU$9.00 each (approx US$8.35 or Euro6.05)

International postage through Australia Post
Postage is either AU$25.00 no tracking no insurance 7 or so days away.
Or, AU$66.00 with tracking and insurance 3 days or so away.
Provide Visa number and expiry date for same day despatch.

Good info.

Also for any US customers, I have a 20v shim bank with a pretty decent selection.

I have dealt with them in the past Jondee, multiple inaccuracies in shim thickness that were supplied to me and then a second set of shim-less buckets several of those were wrong also. I would suggest Supertech also, always spot on sizing and materials are fantastic.

Just don't order their 18mm 4A pistons unless you are ready to machine your rods thinner to fit.

Supertech website does not list 20V buckets. But they do list a shim under bucket
for the 16V. BTW I don't have any connection with Precision, haven't used their products
and don't endorse them. They are just a business that make shims, and I guess that
they have their good and bad days like most people.
