Re: My Corolla... Back Again
Alright.... Corolla Updates!!!
Shooting to have the celica supra rear end finished in the next week or two. Bought almost all of the remaining parts that I'm missing... rear rotors and axle bearings. Just gonna buy the third member to axle housing seal and finish fabricating all of the mounts.
And once again I have a dead spot on my manual rack. When I pulled everything off of my car when I did the swap I tried to have my ae86 manual rack rebuilt. The shop I took it to said there was excessive wear in the middle of the rack. So I chased down an aw11 rack and had them rebuild that one. 2 years later I'm having the same problem. Sooooooooooo.... I'm starting fresh.
Right now I'm working on collecting parts for the outer tie rods I want to make for my rack. I've looked into Xcessive Manufacturing's outer tie rods and of course Techno Toy Tunings outer tie rods. I have problems with both. There's no way that either company is using a quality heim joint for the price they're charging and I'm going to be pissed when I have rattling/play in them after a year. I like that Xcessive made a tapered stud to match the taper in the oem steering knuckle but T3 sells their kit with a 5/8" drill bit and uses a 5/8" bolt. That's bullshite to me. A 5/8" bolt doesn't measure .625"... it's undersized. And when you hand Joe Shmoe a 5/8" drill he's going to end up with an oversized hole. That means there is going to be slop where with the tapered stud there wasn't any. Soooooooo... T3 is adding slop with the "use the supplied drill to make your hole match our BS bolt" and with the cheap heim joints.
The heims I'm buying are Aurora 5/8" LH blah blah blah and cost $57 per heim... link: https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/produ ... oduct=3062
I bought 5/8" shoulder bolts that measure .622" in diameter and will be drilling the holes in my steering knuckles with an undersized drill followed by a REAMER to hold tight tolerance... I don't want slop. I'll post up more as I make progress but total projected cost of the outer tie rods is $200 for a pair. Planning to pick up a Quaife QSR this time.

Re: My Corolla... Back Again
New 4-link mounts for the celica-supra rear end almost finished. We're changing all of the mounts so there will be no need for the bolt on traction brackets or relocated panhard mount. Trying to correct all of the suspension geometry issues.
And another part of my tie rod end setup showed up today...

Got both of the lower 4-link mounts finished. Shooting to have the upper 4-link mounts finished this week.
And our package from the UK showed up today with the Quaife QSR racks. We ordered one for my car and one for MandM177's rhd levin coupe.

I'd love to know the specs on the whole outer tie rod set up as well. That setup looks strong!
Re: My Corolla... Back Again
The reamer came in today so I'll have this finished this week. Again... the shoulder bolt measures 0.622" so I bought a reamer that measures 0.6225". Just big enough to be a slip fit and not a press fit. I can't wait!
For those who don't know this is what a reamer looks like

Hell yea man. You have the fellow machinist touch and mentality. Great build
Re: My Corolla... Back Again
Aaron's car was totalled yesterday. A moment of silence please.
Re: My Corolla... Back Again
^^^^^^ i hope thats a joke man.....
Re: My Corolla... Back Again
Not a joke unfortunately. I'm sure Aaron will chime in.
Re: My Corolla... Back Again
Not a joke... the body is toast. Most of the Levin front end didn't make it. Only gonna part with a few pieces that won't swap over to the new project. Mark is getting my hood and grill for his rhd Levin coupe and I have a close friend interested in my redline taillights and carbon hatch.
All of the suspension and drive-train is undamaged. Bent one of my front wheels really bad but it's still repairable.
Gonna shoot to have everything tore apart this week to make room in the garage for the replacement body.
I'll call you in a minute Joel.............

Re: My Corolla... Back Again
Holy crap, so sorry to hear bro. Hope you are okay tho. Cars are replaceable, regardless of how much blood sweat and tears you poor into them. I'm sure the next project will be better, faster, and stronger. Good luck sir!
Re: My Corolla... Back Again
The most positive thing I can say about the whole thing is quoting Mark (mandm177)... "You did drive the shite out of that car."
I did... I put it together to drive; not to look pretty.
I was butt-hurt about if for the first day but I knew it was always a possibility.
Here's a couple of ugly pics of the new ugly chassis...

Re: My Corolla... Back Again
Well, I hope something good can come out of this.
There shouldn't be a day that goes by where you don't learn something new.
Re: My Corolla... Back Again
Let's not forget that his last Corolla came from humble beginnings. I'm sure to expect great things from this new one.
Re: My Corolla... Back Again
From that to this.
Re: My Corolla... Back Again
I'm already getting a ton of help from my fellow ae86 owners. Joel23 is sending me a JDM Kouki Trueno grill and Thaison is setting me up with a JDM Kouki Trueno front bumper setup. I'm a happy guy!
