20v water line route

Postby alavelle12 » Tue Oct 08, 2013 7:02 am

Hey guys i've looked around a lot, and have seen many different options on how to route the water lines in a 20v swap and just want to see if my setup specifically will work. I have the sam-q kit w/o the heater option and then a stock 20v water pump. Will i be able to run a hose from the sam-q kit to the top of my radiator and then a hose from the bottom to the pump? or will the circulation be off? I know the 16v and 20v pump different directions, but i'm confused on which i actually need with this specific kit.

Thanks,
Alec

I've seen 2 of his 20V pump options.
1 had a remote mounted thermostat connected to the back of the pump using hoses and the bottom pipe of the rad, the other mounted a thermostat in the head outlet and just linked the water pump inlet to the lower rad pipe. Both would have linked the 2 coolant ports at the back of the head to each other.

You got it right. The top outlet (the one with the built in thermostat), the upper radiator hose will go to that. Then the lower radiator hose will go right into 20V water pump. This is without heater. I did the same thing with Sam Q kit.

awesome thank you. also another kind of side question. I got a new 20v pump from torparts, but it seems to be different from my original. the original had just a coupler setup that the radiator hose would slip onto and then get clamped down. the new one has two studs on the rear instead, has anyone else dealt with this and what did you do?

Thanks,
Alec

I can't picture what you're describing.. So are you saying that the water pump you purchased from torparts, doesn't got a coupler behind the pump... instead it's flat and have two studs on back of the water pump? that doesn't seem right... If it is like that then it could possilby be miss packaged. You might need to get in contact with torparts and see if they can double check the w/p for you.
Just a note, *You know you can get a 4age 20v bt water pump from Lithia Toyota of Springfield in Springfild, OR.*

????
ALL pumps push coolant into the block and all need to be submerged/primed.

That's a fwd 16V pump that has a steel pipe bolted to it, which links to the remote thermostat housing over the gearbox.

allencr I just meant i know they operate differently. and with it being a fwd 16v pump, can I make it work? or should i get a hold of torparts to try and get it figured out for a 20v one?

If i was in your situation, I would get in contact with torpart and get what I originally ordered.

original 20v pump seem to be fwd pump as well.
the only rwd pump is the 16v pump mate for ae86 chassis. some one please correct me if I'm wrong.
