WTB AE86 GTS

Postby scm11904 » Tue Jun 25, 2013 3:46 pm

Hey everyone,
Im looking for some leads on an 86. I know what Im asking is pretty tough but id figure it was worth a try. But if you have an 86 for sale or know of one for sale that would be greatly appreciated. Im on the east coast which really makes it hard for me to find them. Plus im only interested in the GTS not the SR5. Ive been looking for months to no avail. I dont care about paying Initial D tax just as long as its a solid car. Hell if its a panda with the red interior id be ecstatic. But yeah let me know and thanks for your help.

A GTS is an AE88, if you ask for AE86 you'll get offers for an SR5 as well.

And Panda paint jobs never shipped to the US, you'll be getting a custom paint job if you find one here. There are also no red interiors, there was a maroon (almost red) interior on some of the early 1985 cars, but that's all, so that's rare too.

And unless you're willing to scout all over the country for one...it might help to say where you're looking. Traveling a thousand miles a shot to look over a car, take it to a local shop for a checkout, fix it up and bring it home again...think that over carefully, that's time and money.

I guess i need to edit what im looking for; but you pretty much explained it to me. I didnt know that they didnt ship any of the white and maroon ones over so thanks for that and thanks for explaining the models to me. Im just looking for a hatchback style really. And I live in Connecticut... which really doesnt have any GTS or SR5 or anything. Im willing to travel out of state to find something but your right traveling all over the country to find something is too much; unless the car is extremely worth it. Well thanks for your advice and knowledge man.

Not only no "white with maroon interior" but they never shipped the white GTS here at all. So real "panda" black and white? Would be a totally custom paint job on a US car, or an imported car from another market. And they never sold many GTSes in the northeast zones. In NY-NJ-CT they were on allocation, only 12 per month shipped into the tristate area in 1985. In northern New England, I suspect even fewer sold because they didn't hold up too well in snow country. Weak heaters and thin metal.

2¢ I had a factory stock 1986 SR5 hatchback white body maroon interior....it was painted panda before sent to buyer.
Maroon not red. Maybe no maroon gts interior?

True no panda hatchs were sold through us dealerships. A kid in a S15 at a gas station wanted to trade...he had been "looking all his life for a white gts hatch". Thats a hard one too....

He's looking for a GTS. not an SR5.

In 1985 there were not white GTSes in the US market at all. I don't know if maroon interiors were used in any of the 1986 cars, but in 1985, they were only used in the EARLY GTSes, and none of them were white. A colro chart posted on the forum at http://forums.club4ag.com/zerothread?id=25076 says there were never any white GTSes on the US market at all.

So, SR5? Its the same but it is a different car, different options, different builds. That's one reason I won't call a GTS an AE86, it is an AE88 and "stuff" was just different for it, even if it came out of the same plant.

So in short my worst fears are true? That its going to be next to impossible to find a hatch on the east coast regardless of color and what not?

There are hatches on the east coast. You just won't find a white GTS among them.
