What's up everyone. Just trying to get a guage of what you guys w/ 20v Blacktops (Silvertops welcomed too) are getting MPG wise. Mainly looking for numbers from guys driving 86's w/ normal mods (i.e. header, exhaust, pulleys, or stock).
I personally drive a 1986 coupe w/ 20v BT swap, TRD ver 1 header, 65mm test pipe, GP Sports exhaust, UNI filters, Toda flywheel, stock gearing.
I drive about 75 miles a day from San Diego to a bit past JSP & back again.

So whats ur mpg? And 75 miles highway only?
Re: AE86 20v BT DD What's your MPG?
^what he said.
I hope you're getting better than 30 mpg. My old car pulled 30 mpg all highway (stock bluetop with 4.778 gears on 195/50/15 tires driving the speed limit).

I'm getting just about 28 mpg average. Running 185/60-14 on drive wheels. Figures are mixed driving 80% hwy/cty 20%
Re: AE86 20v BT DD What's your MPG?
About 30 - 32 MPG here.
70KM a day
195/50 front
225/50 rear
4.778
60 highway / 40 city
and I am always at 5000RPM on the highway

Re: AE86 20v BT DD What's your MPG?
I'm also in 31-32 MPG range. 40 minute commute per day, about %80-%90 highway, usually 55-65 mph range.
Close to stock size tires. Mechanically stock blacktop, with megasquirt, honda COPs, and wideband O2. Stock 16v headers. Nearly straight through exhaust.
The thing that has made the biggest difference in mileage is tweaking ignition advance in cursing areas of timing tables. Running slightly lean supposedly helps, but I can't tell the difference. My target AFR for cruise is 15.1.

Re: AE86 20v BT DD What's your MPG?
so I burped my cooling system and got my heater working the other day, reset my ecu( just unhooked the battery for a bit so it'd relearn) topped off the tank and went on a 107 mile drive on the freeway with a chunk of it being rush hour in Seattle and when I got back I topped off again and it only used 2.85 gallons. didn't believe it so I went another 7 miles and topped of again and it took 38 cents and clicked off so must've been right. read full on the gauge.
so that comes out to 37.55mpg
86 gtsr5 hatch with stock blacktop with fairly open 1.75 exhaust and sr5 rear. 14x7s with 185/60/14 (I think). although I do believe the speedo is like a little off cause the tripometer said 107 but google maps said it was 51 each way which is only 104 but that's still 36 something.
hopefully gts diff won't knock too much mileage off

Re: AE86 20v BT DD What's your MPG?
Filling a tank like the AE86 with its filler on the side at about the 4/5 mark isn't a very repeatable process, so any MPG calc or even an average after a lot of fill-ups can barely hope to be accurate.
Re: AE86 20v BT DD What's your MPG?
I average on 28/29 mpg. This is with a lot of short distances. If i step it hard more often it's more like 25-26 mpg. But on a long journey with speeds around 110 km/h (68 mph) i did 35 ones. A lot depends on your right foot! But the Blacktop is a bit less fuel consuming then my 7AFE despite the lack of torque.

haha it's the best I can calculate god knows i can't trust the gauge that drops from full to 3/4 pulling out of the station haha

You don't need the gauge. You just need the odometer.
Fill up till it clicks and drive for a while. The more miles the better. Try to burn through most of the tank. Then fill up till it clicks again. miles driven divided by gallons you just put in = MPG.
Doing it once will get you a rough idea but you really need to do it multiple times to get a good average.
If you don't trust your odometer then test it against GPS or if you don't have GPS at least check it against mile markers. Again the longer the test the more accurate the results.

Re: AE86 20v BT DD What's your MPG?
I fill mine until i can see the gas in the filler neck.
16v Big port(p&p head), 20v blacktop block, crank, pistons. 4.3 rear end. 205-50-15 tires. FPR vac blocked.
I always use the same pump at the same gas station. I also run 93 octane.
260miles/9 gallons, right around 28-29 mpg for mixed city/freeway action.
Not only is this my daily...its my only car.
