AE86 Misfires..

Postby RussBust » Tue Apr 30, 2013 12:51 pm

i have a '84 corolla sr5 hatchback, it starts up fine but sometimes during start up it has a hard time to stay at idle and just dies sometimes without revving the engine. when starting up is fine and i drive around the city , when i come up to a red light and drop the gear down to neutral , it dies sometimes.

also just put in new spark plugs, fuel filter , and air filter.

HELP ! HELP !

thanks in advance .

If you have an original carburetor yank it off and throw a Weber 32/36 on it, world of difference :)

Nope, you dont have to tune it on a dyno from what i know. Replacing the carb is easy and pretty well worth it even if it doesn't fix your problem lol Heres a writeup:

The carb costs $$$ though, used maybe like $200 or new maybe like 300.

I'm in CA. did you replace the dizzy rotor and spark plug wires? The weber carb is illegal in CA. Could be that your carb needs an overhaul. I had mine done at carb-x, its a mail in thing. ir you could take your car ot their shop to have them do it.
