OST-045: 5AGTE.... again ;)

Postby oldeskewltoy » Wed Jan 17, 2018 2:44 pm

As arrived. The head has been cleaned, but I don't know if it has also be pressure tested, so I'll be sending it out, along with all the associated bits to get cleaned and pressure checked before I start work.

The buckets and shims have seen better days... replacing them with good used units is far less costly then trying to salvage these

More to come.......

somewhere over 1.7 liters... final size depends on their overbore.

rusty shims - Now sure... the head came to me cleaned, but everythjing else just came in a box. The shims, and the buckets carry a moderate level of rust, so these items will be replaced.

work begins.... de-burring the casting......

Amazing work as always. How the heck do you get those shallow coolant passages around the chambers so clean?

One of the costs.... I have each head cleaned and pressure checked at a machine shop. In this case the head did come to me cleaned already, but I still had it checked for its pressure holding capability.

This engine is getting a set of Cat cams 262, 230@ .050", with 9mm lift

moving on....

Chambers currently @ 37cc. Now to decide what the final volume is to be, and then machine the surface to size. This head has not been machined since it left Toyota. Once machined we can move on to assembly, and fitting the cams.

The machine shop that does the work is seriously impressive then. I took two heads so far to two different machine shops and neither could get the coolant passages as spotless as this.

Not all of the heads I work have this "pretty" of a finish from cleaning...

BUT... all heads leaving are machined so that you can read in their reflection... OR more appropriate - fully ready for a metal head gasket!

I put bigger valves in my 5AGZE head
Not sure if it was a good idea or not

(Some call it a 5.5ge)

The first 2(5AG) I've done I did with std valves... I MAY be working another one ... and that one the client is discussing running larger valves. Why are you unsure of your decision???

The head is getting shipped back to my client....

Image

For shipping: :ugeek: With cam dummies in I can keep the shims I want in place without having the cams installed..... ;)

That's a good idea! I know I've been saying this for years, but I look forward to sending you a 4A-GE head for work. It's all in the details like that ^
