Help with Gas Tank replacement Options

Postby VAs Hachi Roku » Mon Dec 30, 2013 4:29 am

Hello,

Does anyone have any tutorial/FAQ on changing out their gas tanks? Or any idea where I can get an OEM replacement? If I did go aftermarket I would want one that requires minimum changes to the car, don't want to have to cut and weld if I don't have too.

Wasn't sure if anyone has ordered from JC Whitney before I place my order.

Thanks

I think he wants to buy a new one not just remove it.

I was also curious about this. I'll be swapping from an SR5 soon.

NPNK - Let me know if you come across something, the issue I'm facing is on this site most people want "local" pickup like Cali is the only state that has 86's. I'd much rather just get a new one anyways.

Jondee86 - seriously read before being a dick..... I know how to use a search engine, I would recommend Google translator to you, but cant convert English to English. Changing out isn't removing and putting the same gas tank right back in. I actually started ECToyotas.com and gave the site to Peter many years ago.

Does anyone know if there is a direct replacement fuel cell for these cars?

While 'change' means to transform or alter, 'change out' means to replace entirely one thing for another.

Forgive me if I seem obtuse, but as your post indicated that you already knew of
a source of a drop-in replacement for the OEM tank, I assumed (quite reasonably in
my humble opinion) that you were looking for a tutorial to guide you on taking out
the old tank and replacing it with the new ?

Hardly a cause for name calling.... hmm ?

Quite so... and if I had been able to suggest any alternatives to JC Whitney, I would
certainly have offered them up :)

I wouldn't order from Jc Whitney to save my life. I have never had them get an order correct once.

The only difference is the filler neck is one piece instead of bolt on like the stock parts ... which is actually a good thing.

jondee it was really the google new mom comment, like I didn't search there first, either way moving on.

So avoid the JC Whitney then....

I'd love to hear from someone that actually bought one of these aftermarket tanks confirming that everything fit, and that it has baffling on the inside like the gts tank. I've only seen a few posts were someone says they bought or will buy one, but they never report back on how it worked out.

Ugh... that blows. I have had issues with my zenki tank because it's not baffled. Love to see a new replacement which does.

I swear i saw a GTS gas tank on Cabe toyota's ebay page not to long ago. Might want to give them a try. Ask for Herb, he will hook it up, if he can.

Yes. John McKenny is using it on his 1UZ drift machine.

RockAuto has them for $145.

Make sure to order the one for the coupe. I accidentally ordered the one for the "hatchback" when that's their term for the 4 door sedan from that year. Will be ordering the correct one next paycheck.

So the one from RockAuto has the internal baffle like the GTS? That would be pretty sweet if it does!
