Does it fit? TRD

But seriously, OBX makes a TRD 4-1 knockoff. It's sturdy but not the most carefully made piece, and it shows. (I have one.) How to tell if yours is real, besides any identifying marks on it... you already bought it, right?

Pics? If you paid more than 200 bucks, either it's real or you got ripped off on a fake. 100 bucks it less, it's OBX or you are one lucky dude that just stole a TRD header lol.

It's not polished, the paint just like silver or grey, it's 2 pieces. I didn't install it yet so not sure about the fitment. And the magnet sticks it.

I will post pics later today, I paid $260 shipped. It does looks like my old one but it has mounting for heat shield and the old one doesn't !

My OBX has mounting points for a heat shield.

On my old TRD it doesn't has mounting points, OBX are polished, but this one is not, it's grey color.

The egr bung is at the correct angle on the trd manifold.

Collector casting is noticeably better.

Trd doesn't hit the chassis.

Trd dp tucks nicely under frame rail.

Not all OBX are polished. They are available with a plain coating, mine is.

Phew~ how can you tell?

Mainly by the collector and angle of the egr bung. Compare with a picture of the obx manifold on ebay and you'll see what I mean.

Also, come to think of it I don't think obx has oem style flanges at the manifold-to-dp connection like trd. I think they're flat flanges.

Oh i see, thanks man! So what gasket should i use between the manifold and down pipe?

Do you mean the stock one like a "O" ring?

Yeah you need the oem o-ring/donut gaskets that are used on the stock cat because they use the same style flanges.

If someone else has found something better to use please let me know. The oem gaskets are a pita to center.

down pipe to header + the down pipe to CAT covertor use the O-ring gasket.
a nice way to keep the O-ring center is to use a small film of high Temp silicone. That's all.

What about I replace the cat with the test pipe? I don't think test pipes has the flange to fit the O ring gasket right?

My trd dp has a flat flange where it connects to the cat, unlike the donut flange where it connects to the manifold. Most test pipes have flat flanges. You'll have to compare them to be sure and go from there.

Real or not real?

The collector is wrong on this one. The TRD collector is a formed collector, where as what is on the right* is just wrapped metal. The TRD also has much nicer tig welds that join the collector and runners where the fake has sloppy running welds probably from a mig welder. Do you see the dent on the top of the fake collector? That is from it hitting the chassis. The TRD collector clears the chassis.

Thanks for the info. "The TRD collector is a formed collector, where as what is on the left is just wrapped metal." dont really understand this part...do you mean that they are both fake?

Ha! No, I apparently just never learned my left from my right. I meant to say "where as what is on the right is just wrapped metal". I changed the original post so that it does not trip anyone else up.

This is a formed collector.

The one on the left is a formed collector, and is in fact a TRD header. If you really examine the two, you can also tell that the knock off on the 'right' has much more aggressive mandrel bends in it ... which is something you do not want.

The OBX header hits the steering shaft as well. PITA.

I had a real trd header on when i bought my car. Unfortunately I didn't know it was real. When I had a new exhaust made I cut the flange off the header and welded the exhaust right onto it like an idiot.
