Brake booster removal

Postby Grant » Fri Aug 09, 2013 3:11 pm

How much has to be removed to get to the bolts for the brake booster? It seems like I can get to all of them except the top right bolt. Is there a trick to get in there, or do I have to start removing interior parts?

It helps to remove the big panel underneath the steering column, but I don't remember what all is involved since I did that so long ago....

The trick is to use a small 3/8 rachet while standing on your head. :]

I took the seat out and put sand bags on the ground outside to make it more comfortable to lay under the dash. A thin extension will get you there. You just need the right light and a wobble ratchet end.

Remove the lower panels, A swivel, some extensions, and bam.

I pulled off the lower dash panel and have been able to remove all the nuts except for the top right nut. I can barely see it. Do I have to remove the instrument cluster? I am using a 3/8 ratchet with a long extension and a wobble knuckle. Does anyone have any words of wisdom or tips to ease this process? Thank you in advance.

no it just takes a little patience to get to it. did this multiple times last month till I gave up on using a booster at all and just going straight master cyl. lol. like previously stated that lower panel is all you need to remove.

Not sure why someone revived this thread. Anyway, I used the small ratchet from this set: http://www.sears.com/craftsman-51-pc-ma ... 929309000P

I was able to get in there (by basically standing on my head :P), and get just enough room to loosen the nut.
