Does the shock sit centered when the car is on its wheels, or is it too high/low? May I inquire why you want to limit your suspension travel to 1 inch in that direction (Please dont take this the wrong way- Im genuinely curious)? Thanks

Tokico hts 102 are probably going to be the closest to trd. I haven't actually compared them though.

Do you have a link for them?

They actually look like this though:

Not sure why Tokico doesn't have the right pic on their site.

So they are $180 each shock?

Re: Shortest rear shocks for ae86
No, best to contact them directly.
BUT...a complete set of four is in the $5XX range, so $180/shock is in the ballpark.

I'm running QA1 PromaStar model DS602 and they fit perfectly with 8kg/mm TRD springs. If you get them, you will need their SS100SD stud mount kit as well. There is a minor mod you need to make to the sleeves to get them to fit over the pin on the rearend, but it's a 10 min easy fix with a dremel cutting wheel.

Here's the shock mounted on the car (that's an NB MIata rear bumpstop)

And what the whole mess looks like when you buy it

OK, let's try it this way. As a long time Picasa user, I hate Google+

Re: Shortest rear shocks for ae86
I don't. You can kind of see on the packagaed shock picture on the left side, there are grade 8 tube sleeve things. The shocks come with two different wall diameter sleeves. The thinnest one is the one you want to use. The inner diameter is slightly smaller than the pin on the rearend, so I used a Dremel cutting wheel to cut a longitudinal slot in the sleeve which allows it to stretch open. Once you cut the slot, the sleeve easily taps on to the pin and you can then install the shocks. No other mods are required and you can use standard Corolla bushings at the top. I set mine up to have as little preload as possible while still holding the spring in place on the perch, so I adjusted the shock length on the stud mount and used a jam nut to hold things in place.
