wheel offset info

Postby sqznby » Sun Jun 23, 2013 9:27 am

I know I know, this topic has beaten to death.
I just have one question. Is there a difference between 0 offset, -0 offset and +0 offset?
If so, can someone please explain. Images would also help.

Thanks :D

All the same. 0 offset is 0 offset.

That's all I needed to know.
And that is the more desirable offset for AE86s?
Thank You

offset depends completely on wheel width. You cant know the fitment of a wheel without knowing both.

and "desirable" is subjective and preference really..

So, a zero offset is located in the center of the wheel? A nine inch wheel with zero offset will have 4.5" backspacing, correct? A wheel with -15mm offset will push the wheel out roughly another 5/8 of an inch? I suck at math, this is why its taking me so long to figure this out, hah.
Offset and backspacing are the same thing, correct?

Gatcha on the "desirable" subject :)

Thanks

You mostly have it right. 9" wide 0 offset isn't exactly 4.5" backspacing. Google up an offset to backspace chart for what's up. Now if you have two wheels the same width, one 0 offset and other -15mm like you said, yes the -15 will stick out away from the car 15mm farther than 0 offset. If you had a third wheel that was +15, it would be set 15mm IN from the 0 offset wheel. There would be a 30mm difference between the -15 and +15.
