Fog light mounting help?

Postby Ryusei_Date » Thu Jun 20, 2013 11:29 am

Hey gang, ran into a bit of a hassle in some badass new fog lights I bought. My original plan was to mount them into the lisence plate bracket in the bumper, but those are 10mm holes and my fog lights are 13mm. I'm curious to know if there's some kind of adapter I can get to mount the fog lights into, I'd really like to avoid drilling if that's a possibility. I'm pretty new to wiring too, so I'm open to any reccomendations on where the wires should go when I'm hooking them up. I have a USDM bumper if that helps.
Thanks guys!

Would be beneficial to post pictures of the lamp in question. That would show what type of mount it uses etc...

While I cant really tell how you want it mounted, I can say that most shops and people use a strong L-Bracket or something similar to mount the lamp to, and from there mount the bracket to the car. This gives you room if you need it, and a better way to fasten it to the chassis so there is no vibration when driving.

Cool thanks, I'll look for a couple of L brackets then, and by fastening to the chassis you mean to use the chassis instead of the bumper to mount it to?

Yes. Using self tapping metal screws or something similar is best against the chassis since mounting it to a plastic bumper will cause the light to vibrate and bounce around while driving.

Can someone please show me a picture or diagram on how these mount on an AE86? Or at least someone else's fog lights on a USDM bumper? I need to push my lip back if I want these things apparently too, what a mess XD

Bumped, and does no one have any pictures or guides to bolting their fog lights to the USDM bumper?

I would choose a general location on where you would like to mount it, remove the bumper and find a suitable secure location, drill holes, mount, reinstall bumper, and align the lights.

I removed the bumper skin and drilled 2 holes in the bottom part of the bumper. they where in a location to where if i removed the fogs the holes where on the under side of the bumper and you would physically have to lay down on your back to see the holes. i had the same fogs on my car.
