I know there have been A/C threads in the old forum archive but i was wondering if there are any newer methods of getting A/C in an ae86 thats effective enough to cool down the whole cabin in summertime weather in SoCal. im okay with putting stock A/C unit in her(i have no compressor installed currently) i just want to know whats most effective, or who can get it working very well. Thanks

If you get stock ac unit, i think you are going to need to convert to r134...

i can get r12 no problem but i just wanna know what the best option is. sounds like easiest is to convert stock a/c to r134A, but best might be to use a different compressor?

1g just to check the system?! what all they do? port and polish the a/c lines and turbo the compressor and refinish the condenser? lol

IMHO I would use r12 since the system was designed for it. if you convert to 134a then you will not be happy with it. i did a 134a conversion on an older r12 system and it was one of the biggest wast of money. also you will get more cooling effects if you can get a larger condenser. the larger compressor wont do a whole lot for you. if you can get a custom one with more rows or a larger unit from another car then i would do that.

I know this is an old thread, but just putting it out there that I have a bunch of these parts available for sale. Missing the condenser and a few smaller hard lines, not sure if I have the pulleys anymore. Came off my 1986 with a power rack. Message me if you're interested, located in British Columbia, Canada. Willing to ship at buyer's expense.
