I would use Sp Tec the T3 is a bad copy of the SS works and although it looks good a majority of the people i know who used it have leaking problem and contact me for SpTec...RS Chita is good if u want to retain the 16v way of cooling the engine but know the 20v cools the head first instead of the block and they did that for a reason...not saying the 16v way doesnt accomplish the task.

the pump doesnt necessarily cause the water to flow backwards, they're all basically the same pump and they all pull water into the block. its where the water feed comes from that changes the flow, on the 16v it draws water from:
1. the upper neck via bypass hose
2. back of the pump only when the heater valve is opened
3. bottom rad hose when the thermostat is opened
overall not as efficient especially with 4 piston number 4 not getting much attention

the 20v draws water from where the upper neck use to be and pushes it through the block to the back of the head where the thermostat is, so i wouldnt really say flows backwards as much as it is rerouted. preferably if i had the option, id buy the sptec, but you can buy sam-sq's 16v water relocation kit for a fraction of the price. have i overheated yet? no. will i ever overheat? probably not but it just isnt as efficient, most 16v with blown headgaskets all happen at piston 4... just something to think about

How hard is it to change a t stat with the t3/ss works/sp tec style water lines in an 86? It seems like it would be a major pita.

to describe in a different way, the difference of the 20v water system vs a fwd 16v -
The 20v has thermostat on the back of the head and routes the cold water through a channel inside the intake side of the head, then down to the water pump, through the block and up through the rest of the head.

The fwd 16v has a remote thermostat above the gearbox and routes cold water through an external pipe under the intake manifold to the water pump, through the block and up through the head.
The rwd 16v has thermostat on the back of the water pump.

the RS-chita or sam-q kit converts the 20v closer to a rwd system whereas the T3 or sp-tec kit maintains the 20v system and uses external pipes to route the water to the front of engine.

LOL, I took those pictures of the RS Chita. That's my buddies car in Victoria BC.

If you have the coin to spend on the RS Chita, I would definitely do that as you can use a RWD 4age but I believe you will need to either swap out or grind down the crank pulley 2mm for the belt to fit. This kit is buy far the best looking kit.

The SPtec works but looks ugly.

If you're looking for function all are great.

If you're looking for a cheap option, Sam Q's kit is great.

If you're looking for function and making your engine look like it came stock, RS Chita.
