AE86 wont start

Postby PrototypeAE86 » Sun Apr 21, 2013 11:03 pm

ok so it's been sitting for a while and i really wanna get it started.. i dont think its anything major but i myself have no idea where to start. ok so long story short it was an sr5 and i got the motor swapped to a 4ag full swap. problem is the car wont start now, and the 4ag was pulled from a running ae86 (scrapped do to major body damage) the guy that did the swap couldnt figure it out and i lost a lot of money and now have a non running 86. but the symptoms of the car are
-apparently fuel doesnt come all the way up (even after changing the fuel rails)
-the car just cranks and cranks but wont start

thats really all there is i said apparently about the fuel cuz i havent checked myself or had anyone check for me. any help is appreciated

it will probably be better to email me @ carlos.cruz3788@gmail.com

also any mechanics in or around bethlehem, PA are more than welcome to hit me up to take a look at it in person

Does the fuel pump run if you jumper it? Green(i think, might be yellow) 2 wire plug sticking out by the AFM plug. jumper that, key to on. should be able to hear the pump and feel/hear the fuel running through the rail.

Full swap including the under-dash harness from the GT-S? Can you locate your Circut Opening Relay?

If everything is where it should be, the Circut Opening Relay (COR) is located on the passenger side, IIRC just right of the glove box on a bracket bolted in.

I'm looking at the wiring diagram. The plug that was mentioned should have a GRN-RED and a BRN wire that's being jumped. the BRN is ground, the GRN-RED is connected to the AFM. you say that you need to jump those wires or else it won't work at all?

If yes, here's what i'm seeing.

Ground > AFM > (along the way is the green jump wire) > COR > "B" on the ECU.

when the AFM is powered up (by the ECU), a magnet on the COR connects "B" on the ECU to the fuel pump and the fuel pump is grounded.

So, if you say that you have to jump the green connector in order to get any response at all, your AFM might not be working.

As to your original post, you say that fuel doesn't come all the way up. does that mean you're getting some fuel, just not a lot? If that's the case, the problem might be mechanical. maybe an obstruction in the fuel line. maybe your fuel pump is not pumping enough to pressurize the lines (it is faulty).

you say cranks and cranks, are you not getting any response at all aside from the starter motor cranking? have you tried the spray (i think it's starting fluid)? If you spray it inside the elbow and crank, does it at least cough and then stall out?

What's the compression?
Does it spark?
Does it get fuel, wet plugs?

Make sure the battery is good! I just put a new motor in my car and the battery was shot, only pumping out 6v. Enough to get some fuel pressure but not enough to start it.

recheck TDC, , and all alignment points lines up correctly , @ cams ,Oil pump marker,Specially distributor ,
that can cause the motor to keep cranking over with out starting happen to me,
