4agec turbo help

Postby ed1990 » Tue Apr 02, 2013 11:23 am

Hey I have a three rib block that I rebuilt. it's not back together yet, but I'm wanting to turbo my car. does any one know if the crank journals are the same size so I can change to a mr2 crank set up? Or does any one know where I can find forged Pistons and con rods that are 38mm instead of the 40mm every place I try is 40mm and the Pistons are 20mm instead of 18mm...
so if nothing else I guess ill change my crank if possible...

Don't waste your time, find a good 7 rib block while you still can. Sell what you have to buy the stronger case, crank, rods, and pistons while you still can. Trust me, do it right the first time.
always looking to buy original ae86 master power window switches or parts, good or broken or not working.

look for my parts for sale...

Would a 20V block be a good choice?

i believe the con-rods are weak on those. you can find most of what you want in an early red top like 89-90 mr2 or corolla. just swap out the pistons and your good. depending on what you want you can run the later gze pistons which are like 8.9 compression i think with a good garrett t28 turbo or you can go with the lower compression 8.0 early gze pistons and a lil bit bigger turbo. there is different routs you can choose depending on what you want or what numbers you are looking for.

i myself have built mine to get around 250hp, but with a safe and solid tune ill be happy with anything over 200 to the floor. you can find some info on my build here, http://club4ag.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1438&p=21471#p21471

I believe the SilverTop rods and Redtop(small port) rods are the same.

Though I disagree that the BT 20v rods are weak because they aren't beefy looking. I havent heard of anyone breaking them. I knew a dude that somehow bent all 4 conrods(4agze) into "L's" he said his wastegate line melted on the header and he boosted 30+ psi. Same guy also lost 3 fingers trying to polish cam gears while the engine was running. LOL

here are the rods, i personally wouldn't chance my build on them, but you can clearly see the difference.
