Header and down pipe gasket

Postby RLZ » Tue Mar 26, 2013 5:12 pm

hi, does anyone know where to buy gaskets for the ae86 16v header and down pipe gasket? just got the aftermarket header so I might need a set of new gasket. I'm in SoCal. Thanks!

Check eBay or rockauto, they should have the gaskets.

any of the chain auto parts stores carry 2 bolt exhaust gaskets. you just have to know the size of the piping. stock cat is 2"
OBX has a 2" outlet
Pacesetter is 2.25
which aftermarket header? not all are the same size. and i havent seen very many 2.5" exhausts for the ae86, other than the CXracing one.

nope the ends are slotted for both 16 and 20

manifold gaskets are cheap and arent anything special, felpro works.

I don't know what brand of the header, but looks like pacesetter 4-2-1.

nope, you can see the slots for 16v & 20v applications. i have bought this kit before, the gasket for the header/downpipe flange is 2.5" I.D.
pacesetter doesnt utilize that gasket since its a shitty slip joint

So do you know the size will fit pacesetter header?

the one in the kit will fit the header where it meets the catalytic converter. its only a little bigger for the opening, i dont think it will hurt none. youll be fine with that kit, i like the OBX ones because they are graphite and dont leak like the paper or crappy metal/paper layered ones.

I might still have a gasket not on my car, I'll measure if so. But yeah, it should fit fine

That would be great if you can measure your gasket before I buy them.

wouldnt it be easier to just measure your header to get the size for the cat/test gasket?...

pacesetter has a 2.25" outlet. go to a local parts store and get a $2.00 gasket.

actually I have one, brand new in the package. HMU if you too lazy to go to the parts store.

You've measured the ID of the exhuast and it's 2.25", correct? Then all you need is any 2 bolt 2.25" exhaust gasket.

Here you go: http://vibrantperformance.com/catalog/i ... _1068_1126

You could also try local import tuner shops to see if they stock any. Any shop that specializes in Honda's or ae86's should have some in that size.

Yeah I will try again asking around, auto zone doesn't have it, pedboys will leaks. I might just go to muffler shop if they have some use or new.

that vibrant gasket is garbage. the metal & paper layered gaskets suck, get a graphite or copper.

i bought one of these to test out, awesome. it has a crush ring to ensure better sealing
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sce-4 ... 4AodiWkAJA

stick with either graphite or copper, the rest will leak in a week

If you have to have the graphite gaskets go here: http://catalog.remflex.com/category_s/103.htm because those may be hard to find locally. Most of the tuner shops are going to have the cheap metal/paper 'vibrant style' gaskets.

The graphite gaskets can blow out. I've seen it happen a bunch in my Subaru days. They'll probably hold up better on a NA setup though.

Dude, go to autozone. Ask them to find you a two bolt gasket that is the size you need. I did that exact same thing, but ended up just buying a sheet of gasket material for $11. You can make all the gaskets you need. Also for the exhaust mani, you can get a felpro one from autozone for $12. I know because i did that exact thing.
