So I want to do a R-134a retrofit on my 86 in my auto airconditioning class and was curious which kits people on the forums have used for theirs if they did it.
i realize r-12 is a "better" refrigerant if we're talking about cooling capabilities but whoever owned my car in the past drained all that vaporized gold and didnt put it back so I'm planning to go 134 since I'm not ballin enough to afford 12. so any particular brands that work with our cars?

Just replace your receiver/dryer and all the o rings in the system just in case, install adapter fittings then pull a vacuum on the system. If it holds about 28-29in then you're golden, no leaks at compressor, condenser or the evaporator. Or at least no massive ones. Then just charge it up with some refrigerant and some r-12/r-134 compatible oil so you don't toast your compressor, factory manual says 1.4 to 1.7 lbs is a full charge. I work at a Toyota dealer and we use 1800radiator for retrofitting stuff, the prices are very reasonable and if you know what you're doing then it won't cost you very much.
