4ac help!

Postby koukipete86 » Tue Mar 05, 2013 6:37 pm

Quick intro, a newbie 4ac owner, i got it as a project 1 month ago, as it was a neglected beat up 4ac , wiring is exposed everywhere and makes me go crazy at times,

What can be a reasonable explanation for my car hesitating and studdering,?
Any suggestions to fix it?

I already changed spark plugs, spark plug wires, coil , fuel filter.

Thanks in advance

check ignition timing with a timing light. If the timing is off, it will run terrible, factory is 5 degrees BTDC. Being a neglected car, the carbuerator is probably in need of a overhaul too. But start simple with checking the timing. Also, how old is the gas?

The carburetor probably needs to be rebuilt. That, and check to make sure your cat isn't clogged. Mine was, and I could never get it to idle right. Then the motor blew up on me.

Hey don't go crazy man..
Engine harness=if it's intact & not hacked into.. Just cover it up with loom & elec tape
For other exposed wiring=old alarm, non oem connections off the +batt post, stereo amp, switches that has no purpose, mystery blinker fluid relay..I'd go thru all that & eliminate

A healthy electrical dept in any engine bay is always a good thing to have!
