more suspension issues

Postby Kuromi_loves_toyota » Tue Apr 25, 2023 2:48 pm

recently did an MR2 rack swap on my corolla, and until now ive had no issues, i recently broke a tie rod end and decided to replace it with the tie rods from my coupe. i didnt know that the AE86 tie rod ends were longer than the AW11. should i buy a set of AE86 inner tie rods or should i buy a new pair of MR2 tie rods?

It should not make any difference using a longer tie rod end, as long as you have enough depth in the threads, to adjust for the change and you have the correct toe in. I assuming that after adjusting the toe, both sides are going to be very close to the same overall length and the steering rack position has not changed, which could cause a bump steer issue.

ae inner & outer, just keep in mind that one side of the aw11 rack is shorter than the ae rack, so check left to right stops and center from there.
haha cali...i got one of your 86's and you're not getting it back.

Ideally you want the inner balljoint ball centres to be the same distance apart as the AE86 rack.
l would hazard a guess that the balljoint centres are the same distance apart as the track control arm pivot bolt centres.
I might try to measure that sometime.

This got kinda confusing lol

If you use an Mr2 Rack on a AE86 ,
Use AE86 Power steering inner and outer tie rods.
And if your looking for more angle, get yourself a rack spacer.
