Can I use the SR5 dash harness?

Postby arvin429 » Tue Apr 04, 2017 9:47 am

I have a 1987 Toyota Corolla SR5 and I want to swap a 4age into my car. I've read that you need the dash harness from a gts to do the swap. Some other people tell me that you don't need it. Do you really need the dash harness and does the sr5 harness plug into to 4age ecu?

I think the plugs might be the same between ECU's, but the wires are definitely not. The 4AGE is injected, and needs all sorts of sensor inputs to give the proper output; the 4AC in the SR5 has a carb, and needs very minimal inputs and outputs. I do not know this with 100% certainty, but it's been the same with several other cars of the same vintage.

I'm pretty sure you can find some wiring diagrams and maybe some posts on the differences, and why it's needed, you just have to keep sifting through searches and doing more reading....
