AE86 won't start

:x I found an ae86 for sale online. 2 tone blue 1986 hatch....talked my way to $500 (and it had a brand new air intake in the trunk someone forgot, woohoo!) it had been sitting a while (3 years?) and has some rust around the wheel wells, but the transmission, clutch, rear brakes and suspension were all redone a while before it went into storage.

it was running when I first saw it, but needed a jump. when replacing the battery my friend accidentally touched a wrench from the positive terminal to the hood prop rod. it caused a nice little light show

now it won't even turn over, it looks like the fuses attached to the positive battery terminal are blown (one 30A and one 80A) but I can't get them out?? I tried loosening the bolts on the side under the little plastic flap thing but they didn't budge.

I'm stuck... I'm close to putting this car in the scrap but I would LOVE to save it.

thanks for the picture! I guess my title should have been more specific.

those are the fuses I'm looking at, but I'm not sure what this stud you're talking about is? I didn't see anything that looked like it moved or came out easily. does the whole plastic box have to come apart?

There is a flap on both sides of the box that opens to expose bolts that can be loosened.

Yeah, replace those fuses and I bet you'll be able to start her up. If she's in as good of condition as you say she is, I would try to save her and not toss her to scrap.

Or sell the parts and give me free stuffs. :P haha

cool thanks for the replies everyone... I'm pretty new to all of this and any advice is helpful!

I can't really get to this car during the week, but tomorrow I'll try and pull the flap off the other side too (I was afraid of breaking the plastic, seemed a little brittle) and wiggle the fuses out.

I was only considering the scrap yard because its a canadian car so the body has a good amount of rust around the frame. I used to do welding as a profession so I'm not afraid of some light body work, but most of the wheel wells seem to have rust and the corner of the hatch is quickly disappearing so there is water leaking into the trunk. The previous owner had used it for drifting as well so it took a decent beating before it went into storage.

It came with front and rear strut tower braces installed so I was definitely going to sell a couple parts before it goes anywhere (unlikely, I am already in love with the AE86)... and a mystery one just sitting in the trunk too?? doesn't seem to fit anywhere I can see so I assume it's for a different car.

if you can figure out what kind of car the mystery strut brace goes on Rejor, it's all yours!!!
