OEM AE86 pumpkin (diff) gasket doesn't fit!

Postby aaronlee133 » Tue May 24, 2016 3:12 pm

All, I admit I'm a toyota OEM snob when it comes to replacing parts for obvious reasons - quality, fit/finish. But I must admit how shocked I am that the OEM gasket for the pumpkin doesn't fit. I've actually read about this on the old club4ag forums as well. In short, the gasket has 10 holes and lines up. But you can't get the gasket onto the 10 studs without ripping some of the holes... in summary, the gasket seems a hair short all around. amazing.

Never thought I'd be saying this but you need to buy the Fel-Pro gasket instead of the OEM one.

I didn't completely rip the OEM gasket - had a couple tears here and by the looks of it is still good to go. nonetheless, just going to go with a clean non-ripped gasket instead (fel-pro). Anyone else have any experience with this?

I too prefer the felpro gasket, but it also has the same problem as oem although not as bad, iirc. It helps if you stick the gasket to the carrier with gasket maker instead of trying to slide it over the studs on the housing.

The OEM Toyota gasket fits perfectly BUT you must fit it to the differential housing and not to the axle housing studs.

I had the exact same problem with my OEM gasket. It only had a small tear so I used it along with a very small amount of permatex.

It has never leaked since so I guess it's fine.
