Are camero shocks on the rear of a 86 better? If so what specific model of camero shocks will bolt up to my 87 gt-s?

Whatever body style a 2000 Camaro is. All 2000 Camaro's whether RS or SS or whatever, they bolt up the same. I have them on my car. They are about 2" shorter than AE86 rear shocks, so that's better if your car is hecka lowered. Plus they are valves for a much heavier car, so they are a lot more firm. Plus you can find them at any parts store, and they are considerably cheaper than AE86 parts.

I have them on my car and they works great, I don't know how low does my car, but it is less than one finger space between the tire and than arch.

1970's toyota corona rear shocks work too. i have a set on my 86, and the rear is stiff. big change from the oem replacements i had for the 86 originally.

2000 camaro is a safe bet for what year to use, people usually use the camaro shocks as an alternative for short strokes. Any spring would be fine to use.

Just for the record, the only thing about Camaro or Mustang shocks that is good for the AE86 is the size and relative ease of installation. The damping is not very good for our cars, since it is set up for a much heavier car. If you get something adjustable, you may be able to get close to the correct amount of damping by running the adjustment at the low end of the range, but it's far from ideal.
