Radio, cluster and clock not working?

Postby Snowcapitan » Fri May 15, 2015 6:05 am

Hello, I had bought by 86 about 2 months back and ever since I got it the radio seems to not be working properly. It doesn't light up at all and the same thing for my cluster and clock, which only work when they feel like it. I was wondering if anybody had any info on Why this might be (fuses, resistor etc ) any information would help with this problem, thank you.

Hello captain, and welcome to club4AG :D

To be clear... the instruments in the cluster ARE working but when you turn the
lights ON, the cluster illumination does not work ?

And the clock does not light up when you turn the ignition ON ?

What about the radio ? Is it the factory radio or an aftermarket install ? Does it
work at all ? And if it does work, does it light up ?

Have you checked the outside lights front and back to see if any are out when
the cluster illumination is out ? Particularly the sidelights and licence plate lights.

Cheers... jondee86

Code: Select all

well the tachometer works and the cluster lights up, but the speed doesn't work, and Yes everything lights up.
The clock lights up every once in a while, but isn't consistent.
The radio is aftermarket, the power button lights up bit qhen i try to turn it on it refuses the turn on.
All of the outside lights work including side lights and licence plate lights. @jondee86

My speedometer started getting inconsistent recently, when I took it apart to check it out the little plastic gears in it were all worn out luckily I found some that fit at my local rc car hobby shop for around 3 bucks. If your speedometer has never worked at all though I would wager something else not being connected or corroded too much.

Yeah... the speedo is mechanical, driven by a cable from the back of the gearbox.
You will need to look into that. And the radio coming and going will most likely be
a dodgy twisted and taped power connection or ground wire behind the dash.
