Hey Club4AG,
I need to redo the weatherstripping on my AE86's rear quarter windows soon.
While the windows are out I was thinking of applying some tint.
I'm going to do the rear quarter windows and eventually the hatch window.
If I had the $ I'd bring it to a shop, but I don't, so I'll be doing it myself
Does anyone have advice on what to buy?
I'm thinking 35% at the moment.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks!

^^True..my original rear seats were faded & cracked from cheap 15 yr old tint..if your budget allows it, i'd spend alittle more for good quality tint that's color stable..I had mines retinted after doin abunch of interior work last year..dont want to do that again for awhile

Not a bad idea, but is limo tint (5%?) too dark for seeing out of at night? I still want visibility, but mainly I'd like to keep my car cooler during the summer and keep as much harmful sun rays out to protect my interior.

Yeah, that's why I'm shopping around for a good quality product. I'm still searching though

easy to apply and extra juice apply evenly
Could you elaborate on this please?
I Googled "vato loco" and didn't get many results.
I'm guessing "vato loco" is a username? I wasn't able to find a store.
Thanks!

Please share with us your results and which brand you go with, man!
I am interesting in doing similar with some limo tint.
My current tint is purple and atrocious.

I'll look into 3M window tint. The stuff I found on Amazon only got ok reviews, nothing great.
Thanks!

Re: Window Tint Advice
Check out 3M or other brand names. The off-brand stuff turns purple or bubbles up from heat & UV after a couple of years. You can probably put on whatever tint you want on a rear side window legally. There are tints that look clear--but stop all UV. Gonna cost you more than the stuff at the k-mart, sure. And there are tints like 3M Solarshield that are actually thin Lexan, which make your glass shatter-resistant, so someone can't punch through the glass without pushing out the whole sheet. The good stuff costs money, and for the small piece you need? You probably can't buy it anyplace except from a window tint shop, who won't charge a lot to install it.
So maybe, the best solution is to take the glass to a tint shop that sells brand name stuff, and just have them apply the tint to the glass, then install the glass yourself. Installation isn't hard but wtf, they won't charge much to do it, and if you don't get it perfect, you can easily spend more on buying another piece of tint material.
Decals will need to be removed and replaced, unless you want them sandwiched in there "forever". Decals on tint, can also ruin the tint if you try to remove them later. Better to use a little tape around the edges. And stuff like parking decals can be hard to read through tint.

Re: Window Tint Advice
Thanks for the replies everyone!
I might take it to a tint shop like people have suggested.
The 3M route sounds good though; their Color Stable product has a lifetime guarantee to never turn purple.
Some links I've found:
