im rebuilding a blue oem.
and none of my extra shims are thin enough! according to the factory manuel... how do grind the shims to size?
and how does that shim less bucket conversion work? how is the clearance compensated for that?

you will have to get new shims. i would not try to grind them down. just get the correct sizes. for the shimless buckets you can get a set from a yaris. they fit the 4age perfectly. the shim is simply built into the bucket. instead of changing shims you would change buckets.

If the shims listed for the 4ag are not small enough there are thinner shims from another Toyota motor that will work. Let me know if you need part numbers. If your in SoCal I have a bunch of shims too.

Here are the part numbers actually in case anyone else may need them some day.

Btw. If you have to use any of these smaller sizes then you will not be able to do the buckets unless you grind your valves shorter.

Ill see what I have when I get home. With those numbers you could probably do bucket-less shims.

Here is what I have. I measured in inches and then converted to mm. Some readings were so close in inches that they converted to the same mm so I'm not sure how to interpret which shim they are. To be the most accurate I suggest comparing what I have to what you need in inches.
Here is what I have in inches:

Here is what I have in mm:

Let me know if I can help.
