Car dies when clutch is engaged even in neutral

Hey everyone, I just recently got the Corolla running, and drove it around a bit. When it was drivable, it would make a chattering sound whenever i accelerated however it went away when I pressed the clutch pedal(clutch disengaged) however when I let it off it would always make the noise even in neutral and was hard to put into gear at times.

Now that I muscled it into the driveway, after starting it, while in neutral the car will die as soon as i engage the clutch(pedal pressed) but stays on fine if I keep my foot on the clutch. When I try to go forward while in gear, it then stalls out and dies. any ideas? TO bearing? crapped out transmission? I appreciate the help.

I will probably pull out the Transmission tomorrow. anyone know where I can get a new TO bearing also? I have a new clutch for it already.

I would service the trans.. Fresh new gear oil is always good! But pay close attention to the old oil thats pouring out..any metal flakes or gray coloration will tell you its history on maintenace.
Replace the clutch since you already have a kit ready to go..& have the flywheel machined..a replacement TO bearing from your local parts store will work just fine. Lastly, look over the clutch hydraulics also (slave & master cylinder), replace if necessary as they do effect clutch engagement as well.

Hey so I changed the oil in the transmission, there wasn't any in the motor. It's still stalling in neutral. Gonna pull the transmission out now. How do you tell if the throw out bearing is bad? Just a lot of play in the bearing?

No oil? Not good..Besides the present noises, what other sounds did you notice while the vehicle was in motion? In all gears?
Yeah a bad throw out bearing will howl & chirp when engaging the clutch or sometimes in neutral regardless. I would'nt second guess it..replace it

My last t50 rebuild ive seen counter shaft bearings get toast from low to no gear oil conditions like yours.

Okay so after I changed the gear oil, I searched around on google if anyone else had this issue. A guy with an evo was having this problem and someone recommended making sure they had oil also, and let it warm up... then try to drive it. Sooo i warmed it up, and it was pretty difficult to put into gear at first, but then it got into gear with no problem. Runs and drives fine now, the chatter is there but its pretty low. I will still probably change the clutch and TO bearing regardless one of these days. :)

Already stated in 2nd post....
tercelica look into your shifter assy also, there's a replacable shift bushing that's sits in there at the bottom..replace if worn or disintegrated
