Has anyone build a front suspension using Bilstein Universal Inverted 46mm struts? IFAIK those are the best, most affordable and rebuildable struts in the market.

That's a great idea. Their description says the O.D. of the strut tube is 50 mm. I'm happy to report that the O.D. of the oem ae86 strut tube is basically the same size. Considering this it might be possible to use stock ae86 spindles and even cup weld them the proper way (assuming the Bilstein strut is steel). Also, it looks like one has to machine the end that the camber plate/top bushing attaches to. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the overall dimensions for these units.
