couple 4ac questions

I just got myself a 85 sr5 coupe and I have a few questions in regards to things going on with it..


It has a weber carb which is clean but its difficult to tune, when I try to lower the idle with the idle stop screw it doesn't seem to want to lower it. I have the car idling at 1-1.1k depending on what mood its in. It drives ok and doesn't sputter or anything while driving, but it diesels hardcore when you shut it off. When I bought this car it had the stock carb so I swapped in the weber, the stock carb was super dirty and all the emissions stuff was screwed up so it ran poorly and dieseled, but not as bad as it is now with the new carb. Anyone have any idea how to really tune this carb?

It overheats occasionally with the AC on, but turning on the heat usually stops it, if it overheats too far I usually just pull over and cool it down. I have my fan wired to a switch in the car because it wasnt working properly before but I tend to leave the fan on at all times when driving. It drives fine at night when its cool out but I live where its 85-100 degrees every day during the day time.

It also has smoking coming out of the breather filter I have on the PCV valve, could this possible be something to do with the valves? I imagine this car hasn't had a valve adjustment or a valve job in a very long time.

Sounds like a vacuum leak. I was having a bear of a time tuning mine. The dieseling and high idle are signs of a vacuum leak. Search on youtube on how to find vacuum leaks. Personally I used propane, but can be a little dangerous but seems safer than carb cleaner.

I totally forgot how club4ag is. Not that 4ACs are awesome motors, but a headgasket isn't too difficult.

lol but its a good excuse to swap if they want. Can always do a cam regrind and weber on the 4ac for more fun

Can you post a picture of your engine bay with the Weber 32/36 installed? I cant get my 86 Corolla SR5 with Weber to start and Im all out of ideas lol
