Added this as a good reference thread now that the Weir rebuild
seems to have disappeared from the web.

Yes, this site is an interesting read, and I have visited it many times :)
A story of one man's learning process with his car and the 4AGE. There
are so many sections that it is hard to decide what to link up. I'll have
another browse and put up a couple of links... good suggestion.

Must have missed that one, but it's in the FAQ now :)

Funny enough, my gauge doesn't go much over halfway even
with a full to the brim tank. So this is one of the jobs on my
list of things to do.

Just came across this... not a bad read. In fact I would go so far as to say that
anyone starting out on an AE86 project and wanting to know about suspension,
should make this the first thing they read
!!!!

Having fun on a budget.

SUPER STREET - Project Toyota Corolla AE86 Part 2

Here is an interesting repair article on Idle air control valve:

totta crolla wrote:Here is an interesting repair article on Idle air control valve.

I saw a thread once before when someone pulled the valve apart and
discovered the "adjustable" plate. They also had a bit of difficulty in
getting the plate to move !!

I'm sure it is possible for the wax filled actuator to lose a bit of range
over the years, but I have not experienced this myself. What I have
experienced is the failure of the valve to close because of a blockage
in the water circuit. And this is by far the most common cause of the
hot idle being high. The remedy is simply to clear the blockage so that
water circulates freely thru the valve, and all will be good.

AFAIK the valve is factory set to give a cold idle of 2200rpm (actuator
retracted). So I am not clear on how you can get a cold idle of 2500rpm
unless the idle air bypass screw is wound out, or there is some other
problem happening at the same time. Point being, that this kind of
repair should be a last resort after all other possible causes have been
investigated and eliminated.

Thanks for the contribution... keep them coming :)

Yes, any links that went to stuff posted on the old forums are not working.
The old forum went down about six weeks ago about the time the login script
got changed. I emailed Moto about it over a month ago, but nothing has been
done. His PM is not working, but I'll try another email.
