4age 16v runs for a few seconds then dies

Postby ds13 » Tue Feb 18, 2014 2:14 pm

im new to corollas. as the title states my corolla runs for a few seconds then dies. i got the car without a wire harness or ecu got those two hoping thats all it needed. the only thing that ive come up with is that it needs a new ignitor being that the one thats in there is spliced and taped. any ideas?

Usual reason it does that is that the engine is running off the cold
start injector. You crank it, engine starts and dies a second or two after
you let go of the key. Pull the plug off the cold start injector (on the engine
side of the intake manifold) and see if it still starts. If it does not start
at all, then your main injectors are not firing.

Check that you have bolted down the ECU ground wires... there are about
three brown wires that are all joined onto a single brass ring. Its on the
engine harness and underneath... bolts to the top of the intake manifold
near the back of the engine. Easy one to miss.
