oem radio install fitment issues, can't get bezel to fit?

Postby AoyamaJPN » Tue Jan 21, 2014 9:14 pm

okay, potentially stupid question here... i just got another ae86 gt-s. the owner took the stock radio/tape double din out and replaced with all alpine stuff, but sold the car to me without the alpine stuff. i did see brackets, so i thought the oem radio would go right back in. well, it did, until i had to put the bezel back on. at first, i thought it was just catching something, but i can see the radio is too much forward to let the bezel set in place enough to screw in.

i went and googled oem radio brackets and compared to what i have, they look the same. i took the radio out and tried to put the brackets in other configurations, but it looks like they only fit one way and only line up one way.

i fumbled with it for an hour or so and gave up.

any ideas as to what i'm missing here? i'd like to keep the oem radio as the car is fully stock at this point and is great condition with nothing missing. but, i cannot figure out why i can't get the bezel back on, the radio is original to the car. the only thing i can think of is that what i think are stock brackets are not, and they got switched out when the alpine went in and the installer didn't save them. do these brackets all look identical except minor offsets? is there more than one way to install them?

thanks!
