Bucket Seats and Rails for AE86

Postby urzu725 » Thu Dec 05, 2013 8:56 pm

Hey everyone,
I would like to put in some bucket seats into my 86, but since it is a small car, I don't know what seats will easily fit. I'm sure you guys know and I could really use your help. Basically,
1) Are there specific seat brackets I should get?
2) What seats would fit in easily without a lot of custom work?
I don't have an unlimited budget, but I would like to know about all kinds of seats regardless of price. I am ~5'8" and ~140 Ibs and I use my car as a fun weekend car and will most likely take it to the track soon. That being said, this is not a racecar and I do not want to go full monte on it with regards to the seats.

I think most will fit, I have a cusco seat with diy seat rail and mounts on my driver side, take the stock seat rail off and make a mount for it, save money on this way but it make noise  buddyclub seat rails are good I think!

Not sure if you are looking for like mid to high end used or junk yard scores or if you are considering new seats but I can get a lot of aftermarket seats including Sparco, Bride NRG, Recaro, Sparco, Takata, buddy club and others.
Sparco has a base plate for the AE86. They also have a couple very reasonably priced seats. The R100 is surprisingly cheap for a name brand product and has pretty good reviews.

For a non reclinable the speed 2 is not much more.

NRG has some very affordable seats. I'm not sure about their mounting solutions. I'm going to look into it now that it's gotten me curious.

Not sure about the quality but likely better than all the cheap ebay knockoff or no name seats.

Most seats have their rails with them! I installed a bride bucket seat i welded some pieces of iron on the underside of the rails to make them fit the bolt pattern on the car it fits fine and i've been using the seats for quite a while now (about 1.5 years) dont have any problems with them. Just get seats which are not wide since the car is small as for height that may be a bit of a problem if the rails are high coz ur head will be scraping the roof of the car. Just get the ones u like and keep the rails low! U shouldnt have any problems. Hope i helped :)

I had a set of Sparco reclining seats and they were waaaay too high. I ditched them for a Sparco Evo 2 copy that is fixed back and it sits a lot lower. Also the first set that was too high were on Buddy Club rails with universal sliders. I used stock seat rails tl mount my current seat and it is perfect. I wrote a how to article on here about using stock rails with cool seats....

I have found mounts and sliders for most big name seats available.
I have put up some of NRG and Sparcos line on my site along with sliders.
If there is anything you are interested in made by them or any other manufacturer let me know and I can probably get it.
