the seal around the hatch? simple, buy a new one(www.torparts.com) and replace the old. its rather easy and straight forward. if its the hatch window seal, thats discontinued.

I got mine from toyheadauto, looks good. I just took the old seal off and cleaned up some rust, there are small gaps on the metal lip because the rust ate away some of the metal. Someone recommended 3M's Super weatherstrip adhesive, there was no adhesive from the factory though.
Any facts/opinions?

theres not meant to be any oem adhesive. possibly, the cheap way to go about it would be to use rtv or something around the whole perimeter. the harder correct way...fix the rusted out areas.
