Track Ae86.. Fuel Cell fitment

Postby BadPanda » Tue May 21, 2013 10:43 am

Hello! Thanks for checking out this post. I'm about to turn my DD into a Track car. This is an sr5 - gts conversion by the way. Basically, Gts gas tanks were really costly or hard to find, and my sr5 tank leaks really bad. I bought a 15 gallon fuel cell (aluminum) to replace it. It has the -10AN fittings on it, but I still need to find out a few things.

Basically, I'm going to use a 3/8" feed line (hard line) to replace the stock sr5 feed line, but once I do that, I still need to know something about fittings.

I need three fittings. The feed fitting, the return fitting, and the breather fitting. This is where I'm in a tough spot. I don't know the sizes and adaptations. I'm going to do my best, I have my boss man helping me. Basically, I want to make this as a guide for those that want to know as well, since I haven't seen many how-to's on it for our cars.

I'll update this as time goes by. :D

Well -10AN is huge. Do you know what the -10 in -10AN mean? The number is how many 16ths of an inch. So -10AN is 10/16" or 5/8". You want/need 3/8" so that's -6AN. The other size you need to figure out is what size the thread is in your fuel cell. Can you take the fittings out? Like drain the tank into a quality container, then remove the fittings and check em against pipe fittings at the hardware store.

I finally got the fuel cell fit in the car, and mounted/sealed. Also, I found the adapters to make this setup work. I'm still in the process of running the fuel feed line (3/8").

I got a -10an to -6an adapter for the return line, and since my external fuel pump has a 5/8" inlet (from fuel cell side) and a 3/8" outlet (engine side), I bought a -10an to 5/8" barb adapter.

Also, I removed the old sr5 return line and breather line. I will be using my old feed line as a return line now. My new breather will go from the top of my fuel cell (theres a fitting) to the gas door. When I get a chance to upload pics, I will do so. :)
