20V Silvertop or 4AGZE
I need to know whats more worth it. I have a buddy whos selling his silvertop but it needs to get clearance checks because it was dissembled. I want to boost it but havent read a lot about people boosting 20v and if so how much boost before the motor explodes. Should I buy it or just get a 4AGZE? I really want a turbo corolla.

20V's respond well to forced induction, Striker cars sells a silvertop supercharger kit that produces up to 220 bhp without internal modifications. That said the 16V is easier to get parts for and is cheaper to modify.
Price it out, between the two engines it really comes down to the bang for your buck.

Well hes selling his silvertop for $200. I looked at ebay and online junkyards and they go for 1200. Id figure id just take the 20v somewhere who rebuilds it and slap it on there and save some money for a turbo kit.

For your new seals and gaskets you'll be spending a lot as it is, if the clearances are out you'll also need to get it machined and measured. It gets even worse if you replace the rings and bearings.
I bought my silvertop three years ago and finally rebuilt it fully this summer, rings, bearings, gaskets and seals brought the cost in around $700 before the cost of the engine itself. I also had to have it decked and cleaned for about $180. If you have to replace any parts besides the wearing parts you'll also have to take that cost into consideration.

Yea it needs clearances done on it. Im going to put GZE pistons as well for turbo. Yea new gaskets n seals. Do you know where i can buy them? For 200 bucks its probably going to be cheaper then buying one off ebay and dissembleing it to put GZE pistons

I bought mine from K1 motorworks, otherwise just ebay a seal kit. I'll look into it for you tonight

You're looking at about $280 and up for a full seal and gasket kit. K1 will sell it to you, as well as SQ in Australia, I'd suggest going K1 since they're american and can get it to you faster.

K1 has a really shitty website but the business is legit, I bought a gasket kit and tensioner from them and everything was exactly as they said, no cheap knockoffs. They also have an Ebay store if you'd prefer

I am doing a COP conversion, so basically wasted spark. It's not perfect but it's cheap and I don't have to cut the wall of my near-mint Zenki coupe

i was thinking about just buying a distributor relocation kit. I wonder if a turbo kit would though since the distributor is front mounted. Maybe custom piping? I dont want to bang or cut anything out. I am trying to stay away from that and at the same time keep the cost low. I don't want to buy a aftermarket ecu as those are way out of my price range 1000-2000 dollars. So i was thinking dizzy relocation kit > turbo kit with forged pistons g2g

Dizzy kits are usually around $500 to $600, think Sam Q's goes for $450. In comparison a scrapyard set of Honda or Toyota COP's will run you anywhere from $60 to the $125 I paid for mine (wanted a specific set), as well as your time and effort. For the money I'd go COP's, spend the money you save on the turbo kit or on some extra rubber, which you will no doubt burn.

Essentially the COP is run by the old igniter and coil from the 20V. I haven't installed this mod myself yet so I can't comment fully on how it works, but if you read the above thread you should have a good idea.

Banta I know. I was debating to go GZE also but then I got a offer for a silvertop $200 bucks so why not. Then I researched more in depth and saw that silvertops are a better engine for boost because the bottom and conrods are identical to the GZE. Then I did more research and saw that some guy had turbo and i think a supercharger SC12 I believe. So he had a supercharger and VVT for low end tourque and turbo for the high end which end up being a BEAST and it ran. Sounds amazing as hell with ITB. It's going to take some time but I'll get it. Lots of custom piping along the way for the turbo. People say just drop a f20 or sr20 or 3GSTE. But i like the 4AGE and its the best balance for the car IMO. My biggest problem was avoiding any bulkhead / firewall cutting or hammering and also avoid aftermarket ECUs due to expenses. The COP sounds like a great idea but I don't know anything about it. The Dizzy relocation kit for 500 ain't to bad for my pocket and I saw some clean looking ones.

would just need to figure out where to place the intercooler and the pipping would probably be underneath the distributor It'll be tight but won't be bad.

My opinion is that a COP conversion is cleaner, you can run the wires out the back of the valley and if you use the setup I have, you can even run the valley cover.

Silvertop, although there should be no difference in how you approach the COP conversion.
Kinda wished I had a blacktop, save me the trouble of modifying the surge tank.

I havent bought the silvertop and now i came into a big debate between the black top or the silvertop. Seems like blacktop is more favorable by the majority

Blacktop is a little simpler to install,since it uses a MAP sensor inside the throttle bodies you can run the throttle bodies open or with a direct filter, meaning you do not need to modify the surge tank, you can just delete it.
Conversely the Silvertop uses an AFM before the surge tank, so you have to modify the tank for RWD configuration. This makes it slightly more annoying for the swap.
That said the ST actually has a stronger bottom end and technically a stronger block, although it's head is technically inferior to the BT's for flow (Smaller intake/exhaust ports, smaller throttle bodies,) You can however change an ST over to a BT configuration if you buy a blacktop ECU and MAP sensor, I'm unsure if you need the blacktop throttle bodies to mount the MAP, you may be able to modify the stock throttles.
Ideally you'd run an ST block on a BT head, but that's just my opinion, haven't tested it.
