Ok heres explaination of above posted pics.

Originally, I got tired of the white getting so dirty, and the horribly noticeable rust spots on the drivers side were crazy. Also the door was a different color than the body. So i chose to Rattle can spray bomb the car something temporary (for the year i guess) that id like. I clearly went with burgundy. It was tough as i still had to daily drive the car, so i would like spend a few hours here and there doing work to it, then have to drive it lol.

I managed to get one FULL coat on the doors back (fenders and hood were painted seperate as they were spare parts) and i had to drive to school that day. On my journey there, I got a waterpump O ring leak.. sprayed everywhere. and my timing belt started getting worn and deteriorating. So of course, i decided to put all new parts.

Girlfriend let me DD her Cavalier, so i decided to do everything at once. Seeing how my car needed valve seals as well, i decided to do them. Pulled engine out new belt, water pump, tensioner, seals, headgasket, head bolts. Even put a new Clutch in it too. Painted the block and various other parts, polished the intake and cleaned the head.

With the engine out, I also decided to do my engine bay. Had a rusty bent battery tray (battery relocated anywway) and a bunch of unused holes. So i shaved the bay the correct way. Grinded the paint off, had my dad do quick welds and i grinded smooth then bondo'd on top. used some flat black spray paint to keep it simple.

All while this was going on, i also did suspension mods. I added RCAs, Poly bushings EVERYWHERE that ididnt already have, 25mm Extended oem LCAs, new TE72 outer tie rods (for contact). Even added slotted rotors in the rear with new pads and stainless steel brake lines all around.

Theres one picture with me with flares andblack steelies. The steelies are my dads spare roll around wheels while the car is down (fc front brakes) and i put them on with his flares for lols. Yeah i dont think i like 15s on stock body anymore lolol.

But now, the car is getting back together. i need to bleed the brake and clutch systems, put back some interior parts, put on fenders and get the car running (timing off lol) and she should be road worthy by the end of the week.

Great idea but I will tell you one thing for sure.. If it's gonna be your first car. DONT even bother modding it first. Do all possible maintenance that can be done, before getting into any problems. I made that mistake at one point. And if you decide that you want to do a motor swap (well if its a stock sr5 thats ok swap it lol) the stock 16v 4age is MORE than enough.

But yes, AE86 > S13. Easy cars to learn and work on. and reliable if maintenance is done. Look forward to seeing it soon

Blew all my piston rings and burned a quart in a day.

Nice build thread. Good to see a first time car owner starting out in a car like this instead. Brings back my experience starting out in a Crolla that I had to put some elbow grease into. Made me appreciate it so much more!

That's so cheap :o Is300's go for around 4-5k in my area as far as I know. We don't have too many of them in Georgia.
